Lowcountry Community Action Agency, Inc. (LCAA) is seeking a detail-oriented, ethical, and experienced Accountant to join our Finance Department. This position plays a vital role in maintaining the financial integrity of the agency by ensuring accurate accounting records, grant compliance, and timely financial reporting for multiple federally and state-funded programs.

Position Summary

The Accountant is responsible for performing professional accounting duties, maintaining financial records, preparing reports, reconciling accounts, assisting with audits, and ensuring compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), Uniform Guidance (2 CFR Part 200), and all applicable federal, state, and agency regulations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Prepare and maintain accurate general ledger entries.
  • Perform monthly bank, credit card, and balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Assist with month-end and year-end closing activities.
  • Prepare financial reports for agency leadership, Board of Directors, and funding agencies.
  • Monitor grant expenditures and ensure compliance with federal and state grant requirements.
  • Assist with budget preparation, budget monitoring, and financial forecasting.
  • Process journal entries and maintain supporting documentation.
  • Review accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions for accuracy.
  • Assist with payroll reconciliation and related reporting.
  • Prepare schedules and documentation for internal and external audits.
  • Maintain fixed asset records and depreciation schedules.
  • Ensure compliance with agency financial policies and internal controls.
  • Assist in preparing reports required by CSBG, LIHEAP, Head Start/Early Head Start, Weatherization, and other funding sources.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all financial and personnel information.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Finance Director or Executive Director.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate's degree in Accounting or Finance from an accredited college or university.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of accounting experience; nonprofit and grant accounting experience preferred.
  • Experience working with federally funded grants is highly desirable.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and federal grant regulations.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and accounting software.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities while meeting deadlines.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Community Action Agencies or other nonprofit organizations.
  • Knowledge of Uniform Guidance (2 CFR Part 200).
  • Experience with Head Start, CSBG, LIHEAP, Weatherization, or other federally funded programs.

Pay: $18.17 - $23.17 per hour
