We hire based on skills, not credentials or experience. If your portfolio demonstrates depth of plant knowledge, attention to detail, and aesthetic alignment with natural, elegant design—we want to see your work, regardless of formal licensing or length of time in the field.Work on your own schedule. Remotely, except for 1-2 site visits per week at your leisure.Scope of Work (Project-Based)When Natural Scapes has design projects available that match your expertise, we will engage you for: Design Creation: Craft comprehensive landscape designs for premium residential projects ($100k ), blending hardscaping and softscaping into cohesive, naturalistic outdoor environments.Client Collaboration: Meet with clients 1-2 times per project, listening to their vision while educating them about native plantings and design possibilities.Site Analysis: Visit project sites 2-3 times as needed, observing conditions, taking measurements, and developing designs that work with the land's natural character.Design Collaboration: Work with Natural Scapes' owner and team to ensure designs align with client desires and are executable by construction crews. Typical Project DeliverablesDesign Development: Site plans and planting plans showcasing both hardscape elements and thoughtful plant selections, created using your preferred professional tools and methods.Plant Specifications: Native and well-adapted plants that thrive in WNC conditions, considering color, texture, seasonality, and ecological function.Client Presentations: Clear communication of design concepts and plant selections to clients.Collaborative Input: Coordination with Natural Scapes on hardscape material selections and placement for seamless integration.3D Visualization: Renderings when beneficial to help clients envision their transformed spaces.Design Revisions: Refinements included within the scope of each contracted project. Ideal Contractor ProfileWe seek design professionals with:Knowledge of native plants and species well-suited to Western North Carolina climate and conditionsProfessional portfolio showcasing residential landscape projects with attention to detail and natural aestheticConfidence in meeting with high-end clients and communicating design concepts clearly and enthusiasticallyAbility to "nerd out" about plants—sharing knowledge with genuine passion and approachabilityProficiency in creating professional site plans and planting plans using your own software/tools (hand drawings, digital tools, or hybrid approaches)Capability to produce 3D renderings when beneficial to client understandingAvailability for approximately 5-10 hours per week on 2-3 design projects monthly (volume varies based on business needs)Reliable transportation for site visits throughout the Asheville areaStrong collaborative instincts and professional communication skillsSelf-directed and ability to work independently Project Engagement ProcessWe'll begin our relationship with a trial project to ensure alignment in vision, process, and aesthetic. If both parties are satisfied with the collaboration, Natural Scapes will continue to engage you for future design projects as they become available. You maintain complete autonomy over whether to accept each project offered. Project fees range from $500-$5,000 depending on scope and complexity. You will invoice Natural Scapes upon project completion and delivery of agreed-upon deliverables. Independent Contractor RelationshipThis is an independent contractor opportunity, not an employment position. As an independent contractor, you will: Operate your own landscape design businessWork on a project-by-project basis as opportunities ariseSet your own schedule and methods for completing design workUse your own tools, software, and equipmentHave the freedom to work with multiple clientsBe responsible for your own business expenses, insurance, and taxesInvoice Natural Scapes upon project completion This opportunity is for independent contractors only.
