Role Description
The Community Volunteer role is a part-time, hybrid volunteer position based in San Jose, CA. Volunteers support the mission of Loving Hands by assisting with non-clinical, non-supervisory tasks that help maintain smooth operations and meaningful community engagement.
Volunteers play a vital part in organizing donated goods, preparing care items, welcoming guests, and participating in outreach activities. They help create a warm and encouraging environment for individuals seeking assistance, while ensuring all interactions follow organization guidelines and respect legal boundaries for volunteer work.
Primary Responsibilities
Community Care & Hospitality
- Greet individuals and families seeking assistance with warmth and professionalism.
- Help guests find appropriate resources or items without providing professional, legal, medical, or financial advice.
- Offer compassionate listening and encouragement, within volunteer boundaries.
- Create a welcoming environment in waiting or distribution areas.
Support for Programs & Events
- Assist staff in setting up and breaking down community events, drives, and outreach programs.
- Help prepare materials, tables, signage, and supplies for distribution days.
- Participate in community outreach alongside staff and ministry leaders.
Administrative & Coordination Tasks
- Support with basic clerical tasks such as organizing files, preparing materials, or entering non-sensitive information as directed.
- Make calls for appointment reminders or follow-ups using provided scripts (no decision-making or counseling duties).
- Assist with scheduling donation drop-off times or coordinating with partner organizations.
Qualifications
- Developing organizational and coordination skills for managing donations and resources.
- Empathy, patience, and active listening skills to connect with individuals in need.
- Strong communicators who can maintain calm, caring interactions
- Willingness to work as part of a team and follow nonprofit policies and procedures.
- Reliability and consistency, especially during scheduled volunteer shifts.
- Previous volunteer or nonprofit experience is helpful but not required.
- Ability to work part-time on-site in San Jose, CA
