Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Veterinary Assistant to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a passion for animal care and a strong desire to support veterinarians in providing high-quality medical attention to pets. This role requires a blend of technical skills and interpersonal abilities, as you will be working closely with both animals and their owners.
Duties
As a Veterinary Assistant, your responsibilities will include:
- Assisting veterinarians during examinations and procedures
- Performing animal handling and restraint techniques to ensure the safety of pets and staff
- Maintaining cleanliness and organization in the clinic, including kennels and treatment areas
- Administering medications as directed by the veterinarian
- Preparing animals for surgery, monitoring vital signs
- Conducting laboratory tests, such as blood draws and urinalysis
- Utilizing aseptic techniques during procedures to prevent infection
- Providing excellent customer service by educating pet owners about care instructions and treatment plans
- Assisting with pet grooming and basic training as needed
Experience
The ideal candidate will possess the following skills and experience:
- Previous veterinary experience or veterinary technician experience is preferred
- Knowledge of veterinary terminology, animal anatomy, physiology, and husbandry practices
- Experience with dog handling, animal restraint, and critical care situations
- Familiarity with dental terminology and procedures related to animal dental care
- Laboratory experience, including performing diagnostic tests on samples
- Equine experience is a plus for those interested in working with larger animals
- A background in pet care, grooming, or training will be beneficial
