Loveland Intermediate School                 Intervention Specialist (Mild/Moderate)

                                                                grades 5 & 6

                                                                one year placement
 

 
Fulfill the responsibilities of a regular classroom teacher coupled with special education techniques applicable to individual needs of exceptional children to ensure that they receive a high quality education by performing the following duties.
 
 

1. Valid certificate/license as issued by the Ohio Department of Education

1. Report to work regularly and on time, prepared to perform appropriately assigned duties throughout the day, in service to students, staff, and the community.
2. Prepare for and perform all assigned duties required by one's job description in a positive and collaborative manner.
3. Follow justifiable directives issued by the established chain of authority with a learning-oriented attitude and seek support when needed.
4. Identify, report, and/or if possible control unsafe conditions or safety hazards in order to maintain safe and secure working and learning environments.
5. Demonstrate professional respect and integrity when interacting with students, parents, staff, community members and other stakeholders.  This includes and is not limited to verbal, nonverbal, personal and electronic interactions.
6. Comply with federal laws, state statutes, Board policies, and related administrative guidelines that prohibit coercive, harassing, threatening, retaliating, bullying or discriminating conduct.
7. Communicate in a truthful, timely, compassionate, and empathetic manner about any matter of interest to the District following the appropriate chain of authority.
8. Manage District property and assets in an ethical and responsible manner in accordance with federal laws, state statutes, Board policies, and related administrative guidelines.
9. Maintain confidentiality of information as required under federal laws, state statutes, Board policies, and related administrative guidelines.
10. Report actions, through the appropriate chain of authority that may represent violations of federal laws, state statutes, Board policies, and related administrative guidelines.
11. Refrain from unethical activity that may reasonably interfere with the legitimate operational interests and goals of the District.
12. Comply with all other federal laws, state statutes, Board policies, and related administrative guidelines.

1. Implement IEPs by providing services to individuals and groups in special education intervention areas.
2. Plan curriculum, lessons, modifications, accommodations and teaching methods and strategies.
3. Monitor students' progress in all educational settings.
4. Maintain physical environment of the classroom and make accommodations as needed.
5. Use appropriate assessment tools and evaluation instruments to evaluate student progress toward IEP goals and objectives.
6. Prepare progress reports, educational records, IEP forms, classroom observation records, and other required forms.
7. Collaborate with regular classroom teacher when students are included in the general education classroom.
8. Discuss students' problems and progress with parents.
9. Conduct annual reviews on all students with IEPs.
10. Follow all policies and procedures for the provision of special education as established by the Ohio Department of Education.
11. Perform other duties as appropriate.

1. Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, colleagues and administration.
2. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret testing and survey results, financial reports, and legal documents.
3. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from students, parents, agencies, teachers or members of the school community.
4. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conforms to prescribed style and format.
5. Ability to effectively present information to administration, staff, public groups, and/or Board of Education.
6. Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional program; ability to plan and implement lessons based on school objectives and the needs and abilities of students to whom assigned.
7. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, peers, parents and community; ability to speak clearly and concisely in written or oral communication.
8. Ability to use computers for classroom instruction and record keeping.
9. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.
10. Ability and willingness to work with and make modifications for special needs students.
11. Ability to communicate ideas and directives clearly and effectively both orally and in writing.
12. Ability to work effectively with others.
13. Effective active listening skills.
14. First Aid Training and CPR certification required.
15. Frequent repetitive hand motion, e.g., computer keyboard, typing, calculator, writing.
16. Frequent requirement to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, see, read, speak, reach, stretch with hands and arms, crouch, kneel, and stoop.
17. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
18. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to very loud.

 
May directly supervise special education aides. Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and negotiated agreements. Responsibilities include training employees, planning, assigning and directing work.
