Position Summary
Love United Methodist Church is a growing, energetic, new church in Baytown, Texas. We have an award-winning choir with 25 members and diverse musical repertoire from hymnody to classical choral music, gospel, opera, musical theater, and some contemporary pop. We are seeking our next Director of Music Ministries to conduct the Love United Methodist Church choir in worship and community events. We offer a flexible and creative environment where your art and your vision are celebrated! Together we will share God’s unconditional love for everyone through the joy of music.
Responsibilities
· Create and execute a vision to expand and enrich the church’s music ministries.
· Lead the choir and congregation in music during Sunday worship.
· Lead weekly choir rehearsals, encouraging growth in musicality in a supportive environment.
· Collaborate with the Pastor to shape meaningful, Spirit-led worship.
· Schedule special music performances throughout the church year.
· Provide a warm, friendly, and safe environment for diverse people of every kind.
· Communicate with the choir, congregation, and community about upcoming music.
· Promote and participate in musical opportunities throughout the community such as caroling, public performances, and musical outreach programs.
· Help create and maintain the church’s music ministries budget.
· Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
· Undergraduate degree in music (or currently enrolled in a music degree program).
· A joyful love of music and a good sense of humor.
· Enthusiasm for welcoming and mentoring everyone: from absolute beginners to musical professionals.
· A team player who is friendly and patient.
· Has a personal, active, and growing spiritual life.
· Creativity to integrate multiple musical styles into the life of the church.
· Ability to pass a background check and Safe Sanctuary training.
· Perseverance to meet the spiritual and emotional responsibilities of working in a religious environment.
Work Schedule
· This is a part-time position based in Baytown, TX. This position requires around 20 hours per week.
· Sunday mornings from 9:30 AM to 1:30 PM and Wednesday evenings from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM
· Additional days and times seasonally in conjunction with church seasons and ministries.
· Flexible time for preparation, practice, and planning on-site and/or remotely.
· Occasional Thursday evening administrative meetings to plan upcoming programs.
