Affiliated with the American Montessori Society for 20 years, Love of Learning Montessori has offered traditional non-denominational Montessori instruction in a wooded setting on Centerport Harbor. Serving 110 children, Love of Learning is devoted to developing students’ self-motivation, independence, curiosity, and cooperation. Unique to our curriculum is the use of our 15-acre outdoor wooded space, used both for instruction, recess, and family events. The woods and the shore are our hallways. Overview
Love of Learning Montessori School is seeking a nurturing, dependable, and enthusiastic Assistant Toddler Teacher to join our Toddler Program. The ideal candidate is passionate about working with young children, values the Montessori philosophy, and is eager to support the growth and development of children ages 18–36 months in a warm, respectful, and engaging environment.
This role involves working closely with the Lead Teacher to help maintain a prepared Montessori environment, support daily classroom routines, and foster children's independence, confidence, and love of learning. Prospective candidates should possess a genuine appreciation for outdoor learning and recognize the valuable opportunities nature provides for exploration, discovery, and development.
Responsibilities
Classroom Support: Assist the Lead Teacher in implementing daily classroom activities, lessons, and routines in alignment with Montessori principles.
Prepared Environment: Help maintain a clean, organized, safe, and inviting classroom environment that encourages independence and exploration.
Child Guidance: Support children with daily routines, including toileting, handwashing, meals, rest time, transitions, and self-care skills while fostering independence.
Observation: Observe children's development and behavior and communicate relevant information to the Lead Teacher.
Outdoor Learning: Actively participate in outdoor education experiences and support children's exploration of the natural environment.
Health and Safety: Follow all school policies and procedures related to health, safety, supervision, and licensing requirements.
Family Communication: Assist in fostering positive relationships with families through professional, respectful interactions.
Collaboration: Work collaboratively with the Lead Teacher and fellow staff members to create a positive and supportive classroom community.
Classroom Maintenance: Help prepare materials, organize classroom spaces, sanitize equipment, and maintain daily records as required.
Professional Growth: Participate in staff meetings, professional development opportunities, and school events.
Qualifications
Education: Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or a related field preferred.
Experience: Previous experience working with toddlers or young children in a classroom, childcare, camp, or related setting preferred.
Montessori Interest: An interest in Montessori education and a willingness to learn Montessori philosophy and practices. Montessori certification is preferred but not required.
Passion for Young Children: A genuine love of working with toddlers and supporting their growth, independence, and emerging skills.
Communication Skills: Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with children, families, and colleagues.
Reliability and Professionalism: Dependable, organized, flexible, and committed to maintaining a positive and professional presence within the school community.
Physical Requirements: Ability to actively engage with young children, including sitting on the floor, lifting up to 40 pounds, assisting with daily care routines, and participating in outdoor activities in various weather conditions.
