Position Summary


The Director, Community Relations & Fan Experience will serve as the primary connector between LOVB San Francisco and the volleyball and broader community throughout the Bay Area.

This role will lead community engagement efforts, oversee the team's street team and grassroots programs, manage relationships with volleyball clubs and organizations, and lead the development of access-focused initiatives that expand opportunities for participation in volleyball and women's sports.

This role will also play a critical role in supporting fan development and ticket sales by building relationships with community groups, youth organizations, schools, volleyball clubs, colleges, and local leaders. During the season, the Director will oversee fan engagement zone programming and community-based activations that enhance the matchday experience.

The ideal candidate is deeply connected to the volleyball community, passionate about relationship-building, and excited to help establish LOVB San Francisco as a beloved community asset.

Responsibilities


Community Relations & Outreach

● Serve as the primary liaison between LOVB San Francisco and the Bay Area volleyball community.
● Build and maintain relationships with volleyball clubs, coaches, leagues, schools, colleges, recreation programs, and community organizations.
● Represent the organization at community events, tournaments, clinics, networking events, and industry gatherings.
● Develop year-round community engagement strategies that strengthen awareness and affinity for the team.
● Act as an ambassador for the organization throughout the Bay Area.

Volleyball Community Development

● Build and maintain a comprehensive network of volleyball stakeholders across Northern California.
● Develop partnerships with youth clubs, adult leagues, collegiate programs, coaches, and volleyball influencers.
● Create programs that connect the volleyball community to the professional team.
● Identify opportunities to grow volleyball participation and engagement throughout the region.
● Serve as an internal subject matter expert on the Bay Area volleyball ecosystem.

Access & Community Impact Programs

● Lead the development and execution of the team's community impact initiatives.
● Coordinate clinics, community events, mentorship opportunities, and athlete appearances.
● Partner with nonprofit organizations, schools, and community leaders to maximize impact.
● Measure and report on program outcomes and community engagement efforts.

Street Team & Grassroots Marketing

● Oversee and manage the LOVB San Francisco street team and programming.
● Develop grassroots marketing plans that increase awareness and fan acquisition throughout the Bay Area.
● Coordinate community appearances, festivals, tournaments, watch parties, and local events.
● Ensure the organization maintains a visible presence at key community and volleyball events.

Fan Experience & Engagement

● Lead the development and execution of fan engagement zone programming during the season.
● Oversee interactive experiences, community activations, youth engagement areas, and volleyball-themed activities within the venue footprint.
● Develop programming that reflects the team's values, culture, and connection to the Bay Area.
● Collaborate with Event Operations and Marketing to create memorable fan experiences before, during, and after matches.
● Continuously gather feedback and improve fan engagement initiatives.

Ticketing & Revenue Support

● Partner closely with the Ticketing team to develop community sales and grassroots ticketing programs.
● Generate group sales opportunities through community organizations, schools, youth sports programs, volleyball clubs, and local businesses.
● Support membership and ticket sales initiatives through relationship-building and outreach.
● Identify and cultivate new audiences that can become long-term fans and supporters.
● Assist in creating community-focused ticket programs and special event nights.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

● Partner with Marketing to amplify community stories and initiatives.
● Support Partnerships through community activation opportunities and nonprofit engagement.
● Work with Communications and Social Media teams to showcase community impact efforts.
● Coordinate athlete, owner, and staff appearances within the community.

Qualifications

● 5 years of experience in community relations, grassroots marketing, fan development, youth sports, volleyball operations, or related fields.
● Strong existing relationships within the volleyball community preferred.
● Experience managing community programs, events, volunteers, or grassroots initiatives.
● Demonstrated success building partnerships and cultivating stakeholder relationships.
● Excellent communication, presentation, and relationship-building skills.
● Strong organizational and project management abilities.
● Passion for volleyball, youth development, and women's sports.
● Willingness to work evenings, weekends, and community events throughout the year.

Preferred Experience

● Volleyball club, collegiate, or professional volleyball experience.
● Professional sports, collegiate athletics, or sports property experience.
● Experience leading community impact or access-focused programs.
● Experience supporting ticket sales, group sales, or fan development initiatives.
● Familiarity with the Bay Area sports and volleyball landscape.
