Job Overview
This is general law enforcement work responsible for protecting life and property and enforcing laws and ordinances. Work involves routine patrol in assigned area, responding to emergency and nonemergency calls for service, alarms, and citizen complaints.
Duties include traffic enforcement, preliminary criminal investigations, serving warrants, making arrests, and other similar type assignments. Work requires independent judgment and discretion in difficult or unusual situations. Work involves an element of personal danger. Work is performed under the general supervision of a police corporal or sergeant who reviews work performance.
Duties
Certified officers perform a wide range of law enforcement duties, including patrol, response to calls for service, traffic enforcement, preliminary investigations, arrests, report writing, court appearances, and related public safety functions. Officers are expected to work under supervision, exercise sound judgment, and carry out assigned duties in support of department operations and community safety.
Requirements
- high school diploma or equivalent
- current Alabama certification, or eligibility to serve under Alabama standards
- a minimum of two years of law enforcement experience preferred
- valid driver license
- ability to meet department and legal requirements
