Essential Functions:
- Oversees the overall operation and management of the Fire Arson Bureau
- Performs technical and administrative arson duties
- Assists in budget preparation and monitors and controls expenditures
- Responds to incidents as directed
- Handles personnel and procedural matters within the Bureau
- Maintains personnel and payroll records for all employees in the Bureau
- Responsible for daily reports to the Assistant Chief
- Serves on boards or committees
- Develops specifications for purchase of equipment for the Bureau
- Coordinate the activities of the Arson Bureau
- Supervises the investigative duties of subordinate investigators
- Prepares and reviews reports of case investigations
- Participates and supervises investigations of technically complex incidents or incidents in which a death or serious injury has occurred
- Trains arson investigators and other fire division personnel in arson investigation techniques and fire cause determination
- Supervises the cross-training and professional development of members in the Bureau
- Enforces all applicable laws pertaining to fire setting and related offenses and advises subordinate investigators on the interpretation of these laws
- Responsible for the origination, updating, and continual development of various reports and projects of a highly confidential nature
- Develops improvements and maintains the record management system
- Supervises the use of developmental resources for public education programs
- Performs related work
- Must be a current employee with the minimum rank of Sergeant, with minimum of five years within the Arson Bureau of the Louisville Division of Fire
Other Minimums:
- Must be a US Citizen
- Must be a minimum of 21 years of age
- Must work a varied schedule
- Within the last 2 years must not have conducted the business of a private detective agency or any agency supporting private detectives, private policeman or private guards/advertised or solicited any such business in connection with any labor dispute
- Within the last 2 years, must not have hired himself (herself) out or received any compensation from any private source for acting as a privately paid detective, policeman, guard, peace officer or otherwise as an active participant in any labor dispute
- Must never have been convicted of a crime involving moral turpitude
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license
Physical Requirements & Working Conditions:
- Meets regular and punctual attendance standards and any special needs of the position as determined by management, including mandatory overtime and performing related work
