Summary Objective

The purpose of this position is to deliver books via Library vehicles, supports and participates in work of the Facilities Department.

This class works under close to general supervision according to set procedures but determines how or when to complete tasks.

Examples of Duties

Essential Functions

The essential functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the class as necessary.

  • Sorts and distributes books, mail, programming materials, supplies and payroll to various branches of the library system.
  • Lifts and loads, and unloads materials, supplies and equipment.
  • Drives library vehicles to make deliveries.
  • Performs minor maintenance on Library vehicles.
  • Assists with setting up and taking down equipment and materials needed for special events.
  • Transports money bags from branches and delivers them to the business office.
  • Operates a forklift to move materials and equipment.
  • Transports workers, equipment and materials to and from work site while using a Library vehicle.
  • Empties recycling.
  • Performs related work as assigned.

Minimum Education And Experience Requirements

  • Must by 18 years of age or older.
  • Must have at least a tenth-grade education.

Other Minimum Requirements

  • Must possess and maintain a valid state driver's license with an acceptable driving history.
  • Must obtain forklift certification provided by the library within 30 days of hire.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement.

  • Lifts, loads, and unloads materials, supplies and equipment from library vehicle.
  • Lifts and carries items weighing up to 100 pounds, in a team setting.
  • Drives to multiple locations.
  • Meets regular and punctual attendance standards and any special needs of the position as determined by management, including mandatory overtime and performing any related work.

Unavoidable Hazards (work Environment)

Unavoidable hazards refer to the job conditions that may lead to injury or health hazards even though precautions have been taken.

  • Involves routine and frequent exposure to:
    • Bright/dim light
    • Dust and pollen
    • Extreme head and/or cold
    • Wet or humid conditions
    • Extreme noise levels
    • Vibration caused by riding in a vehicle
    • Fumes and/or noxious odors
