The Public Information Officer 1/2 supports Louisiana Works' communications efforts by developing and distributing clear, accurate, and timely information for external audiences. This position may draft press releases and other public-facing materials, create graphic, photographic, and video content for print, digital, and social media platforms, capture photos and videos at agency events, assist with media relations and public outreach activities, and help execute communications initiatives that support the agency's priorities. The Public Information Officer works within the Public Affairs team to ensure messaging and visual materials are consistent, accurate, and aligned across communication channels.

The Office of the Secretary (OOS) is responsible for setting the overall vision, mission and long-term goals of the department. OS provides leadership and management of all departmental programs, communicates departmental direction, ensures the quality of services provided, and fosters better relations with all stakeholders, thereby increasing awareness and use of departmental services.

Minimum Qualifications

Three years of experience in public relations, journalism, marketing, content creation, social media management, or graphic design; OR

Six years of full-time experience in any field; OR

A bachelor's degree.

EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION:
Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience towards the six years of full-time work experience in any field. The maximum substitution allowed is 120 semester hours which substitutes for a maximum of four years of experience in any field.

Job Duties and Other Information

Job Details:


  • Supports the drafting, editing, proofreading, formatting, and distribution of communications materials, including newsletters, staff updates, one-pagers, talking points, web copy, presentations, and other public-facing or internal communications products. Gathers photos, program updates, success stories, event details, and other content from agency staff, field offices, partners, and stakeholders for use in agency communications materials and outreach efforts.
  • Assists with drafting, scheduling, posting, and tracking content for agency social media platforms and other digital communications channels in accordance with established agency messaging and guidelines. Monitors engagement and supports efforts to increase awareness of agency programs, services, initiatives, and events.
  • Provides logistical and administrative support for communications-related meetings, events, press activities, stakeholder briefings, and internal communications efforts. Prepares agendas, meeting materials, sign-in sheets, notes, follow-up items, and other supporting documents as needed.
  • Monitors agency programs, events, partner activities, public announcements, and other relevant developments to identify potential communications opportunities for review and use by communications leadership. Assists with gathering background information and supporting materials to inform communications efforts.
  • Maintains organized communications files, media contact lists, photo libraries, content folders, project trackers, and other communications-related records to support efficient communications operations. Performs related administrative and communications support duties as assigned.
