POSITION: LPN
REPORTS TO:Clinical Director
General duties: The LPN position requires rendering nursing care to patients in support of and as directed by the physician. Provides direction to the medical assistant to ensure smooth patient flow and monitors MD schedule to ensure appropriate scheduling. The LPN position will also train as a room nurse to greet and update patient information, generate forms and communicate professionally with patient and MD and team members. Other duties are assigned by the Clinical Director according to policies and procedures and the mission of Louisiana Women’s Healthcare.
Job responsibilities:
- Phone Triage
Ensures phone messages are retrieved and returned after consulting with the physician within a timely manner.
Documents all conversations with patients in the appropriate format and placed in the medical records
Educates patient about diagnostic procedures, medications, lab results, and maintenance of health
Dispense drug samples when directed by physician; documents the dispensing in the medical records
Schedules surgeries for physician and coordinates with other staff when assists are needed
Notifies patients of dates and times of surgery, pre-op instructions and appointments/and post-op appointments
Ensures that encounter form is completed before directing patient to the discharge area
Maintains strict patient confidentiality. Follows all HIPAA regulations
Keeps individual work area clean
Performs other work-related duties as required
- Room Nurse
Greets patients and updates patient information in EMR
Generate forms in advance for scheduled patients and on demand for work-in patients
Escorts patients into exam areas timely
Performs vital signs and obtains patient history, records information on the appropriate visit form, recording chief reason/complaint for the visit
Updates relevant information on problem list at every visit
Checks schedules and organizes patient flow
Labels patient specimens for laboratory testing
Enter lab orders per the physician into the medical records
Ensures the encounter form is complete before directing patient to the discharge area
Follow-up with all missed appointments, including no-shows; documents in the medical records and contacts patient for appropriate follow-up appointment.
Ensure exam rooms are neat and full supplied
Delivers all specimens to the appropriate receptacles with appropriate paperwork
Maintains open communication between nurses
Maintains strict patient confidentiality. Follows all HIPAA regulations
Knowledge:
Knowledge of medical terminology and procedures
Knowledge of nursing theory, regulations and practices
Knowledge of HIPAA regulations and compliance
Skills:
Computer literacy
Skilled in data entry
Demonstrate communication skills, tack, diplomacy, sensitivity, clarity and accuracy
Maintain a positive working relationship with physician other co-workers
Abilities:
Ability to understand and interpret policies and regulations.
Ability to utilize good clinical judgment
Ability to communicate clearly and concisely with physician, team member and patient
Ability to follow policies and procedures as directed

Requirements
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Education and Background:
- Previous experience as LPN in the private physician setting, preferably OB/GYN office or Family Practice. Computer literacy required.
- Current Louisiana Practical Nurse License
- Required to maintaining license
- Maintain CPR certification
Temperament:
- Work well under stressful conditions, maintain a professional disposition
Physical Requirements:
- Visual and manual dexterity for data entry on the computer.
- Tolerate prolonged sitting or standing
- All duties to be performed with or without accommodation.
