District Recruitment For Rapides Parish
The purpose of this job is to provide DOTD with well-trained, government certified herbicide applicators to be utilized throughout the state in the proper application of a variety of chemicals within a wide range of geographic landscapes in assigned parish(es) of Louisiana, incumbents must possess a current Louisiana class “A” CDL. The incumbent is required to have special knowledge of the use of a wide variety of chemicals with appropriate rates, proper application methods, the chemical needed for the targeted plants (weeds) and the results expected within a wide range of geographic landscapes for the purpose of controlling undesirable vegetation. The incumbent is also responsible for keeping an inventory of chemicals (herbicides) which may amount to tens of thousands of dollars of material stored and portions used on a daily basis. This position requires the incumbent to read and understand the label for all products being used and interpret the MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheets) for potential hazards and safety precautions requires to ensure their safety and the public's safety while minimizing environmental risk with the use of herbicides. Incumbent will be required to wear protective gear when exposed to herbicide chemicals, particular when using handheld spray guns to apply certain herbicides.
While in official capacity, DOTD employees must comply with applicable Louisiana and Civil Service laws, rules, and regulations, as well as DOTD policies, procedures, manuals, and directives.

- Operate spray truck or other spray equipment (may have GPS navigation system) to maintain roadside vegetation along state highway
- Responsible for measuring/mixing proper amounts of appropriate herbicides as needed.
- Operate power and hand tools in the removal of trees, tree branches and other vegetation that may be causing obstruction for motorist.
- May be required to perform other duties as necessary, including, but not limited to, emergency/disaster support activities.

This position requires the selected candidate to maintain the following while in the position:
- Class A CDL license.
- Requires random drug testing.
- Required to work in all types of inclement weather and conditions.
- Certified by the La. Department of Agriculture & Forestry
- Working knowledge of computers.
- May involve night-time operations, due to servicing equipment and removing debris from roadway.
