The Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) is seeking a Mobile Equipment Operator to join our team. As a Mobile Equipment Operator, you'll help create a positive first impression for every person who walks through our doors or see on the roadways.

The purpose of this position is to operate a variety of heavy equipment for road/bridge construction and maintenance primarily for Calcasieu Parish. This position is located in District 07 Unit 777 of the Department of Transportation and Development and reports directly to Highway Foreman 2. The incumbent must be self-motivated and be able to perform duties with minimal supervision and able to interpret unforeseen conditions as they may arise. The incumbent will participate in appropriate DOTD structured training programs and attend all continuing education classes and conferences deemed necessary to facilitate the performance of required tasks. While in official capacity, DOTD employees must comply with applicable Louisiana and Civil Service Laws, rules, and regulations, as well as DOTD policies, procedures, manuals, and directives.

    Appointment Type: Probational or Promotional

    Work Schedule: Work hours are 6:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday - Thursday

    Career Progression: As part of a Career Progression Group, vacancies may be filled from this recruitment as a Mobile Equipment Operator 1, 2 or 1/Heavy depending on the level of experience of the selected applicant(s).

    Compensation: Below is the starting salary and Premium Pay amounts for each level.

    • MOBILE EQUIPMENT OPERATOR 1: Starting salary for MEO-1 is $16.06/hourly; this job title receives Premium Pay in the amount of $1.00/hour for all hours worked. Additionally, a 10% base pay increase will be granted upon attainment of permanent status.
    • MOBILE EQUIPMENT OPERATOR 2: Starting salary for MEO-2 is $17.18/hourly; this job title receives Premium Pay in the amount of $1.00/hour for all hours worked. Additionally, a 10% base pay increase will be granted upon attainment of permanent status.
    • MOBILE EQUIPMENT OPERATOR 1/HEAVY: Starting salary for MEO-1/HEAVY is $21.05/hourly. There is no Premium Pay for this level.

    Required The following licenses will be required upon appointment for each level:

    • MOBILE EQUIPMENT OPERATOR 1: Class D, Chauffeurs License will be required upon appointment.
    • MOBILE EQUIPMENT OPERATOR 2: Class A, Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) will be required upon appointment.
    • MOBILE EQUIPMENT OPERATOR 1/HEAVY: Class A, Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) will be required upon appointment.
