This position performs a wide range of repairs on a variety of makes and models of heavy and light duty construction equipment, passenger vehicles, medium duty trucks, and small engine equipment, and is located in the District08/Unit 071/Equipment Central Repair Shop of the Department of Transportation and Development.
The incumbent must be self-motivated and be able to perform duties many times with or with minimal supervision and also be able to interpret unforeseen conditions as they may arise. The incumbent will participate in appropriate DOTD structured training programs as appropriate and attend all continuing education classes and conferences deemed necessary to facilitate the performance of required tasks.
While in official capacity, DOTD employees must comply with applicable Louisiana and Civil Service laws, rules and regulations, as well as DOTD policies, procedures, manuals and directives.

- Perform a full range of repairs on a variety of makes and models of heavy and light duty construction equipment, passenger vehicles, medium duty trucks, and small engine equipment.
- Inspect equipment, diagnose mechanical problems, and determine the best course of repair.
- Removes and replaces starters, alternators, batteries, light assemblies, switches, etc.
- Diagnose and repair malfunctions to hydraulic systems such as dump bed lifts and aerial platform lifts.
- Provides instructions or assistance to lower-level mechanics and Mobile Equipment Operators when they encounter problems in repair work or are working as a group to accomplish major repairs.

Expectations
- Operate desktop computer and have word processing skills.
- Random drug testing required.
- Troubleshooting skills with heavy equipment scan tool and diagnostic tools.
- Must respond to callouts during after-hours, days off, weekends, and holidays.
- Work tasks are carried out during ALL types of extreme weather conditions and hazardous work environments.
