About This Position
The DOTD Enforcement Sergeant position is assigned to the Weight Enforcement Unit within the Department of Transportation and Development and is comprised of the fixed-scale facilities. This unit is statutorily mandated and has sole responsibility for enforcing the federal/state, size, weight, permit, registration, and taxation regulations. The incumbent assigned ensures enforcement efforts promote a safe and secure driving environment while protecting and preserving vital roadway infrastructures. Commissioned personnel assigned have the same authorities statewide as sheriffs, constables, and police officers with respect to the enforcement of the law.
While in official capacity, DOTD employees must comply with applicable Louisiana and Civil Service Laws, Rules, Regulations, as well as DOTD policies, procedures, manuals and directives.

Minimum Qualifications
Four years of law enforcement experience in the protection of transportation infrastructure; OR
Five years of law enforcement experience as a POST certified peace officer commissioned with the power of arrest.
Necessary Special Requirements
Possession of a valid driver's license.
Possession of an active Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certification.
An applicant who has been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence or a felony, or who is under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified by the hiring agency until relief from the disabilities imposed by state and federal laws is granted.

The incumbent in this position must be available for cross-utilization in any DOTD Police Unit assigned to the Department (i.e. Capitol Security, Physical Security, or any other DOTD Unit assigned). Therefore, the process of cross-utilization applies to this position as needed.

- The incumbent acts as a uniformed commissioned/POST-certified Police Officer and serves as a DOTD supervisor in an assigned static scale facility. The primary focus, of the Agency, is weight and size enforcement of both State and Federal Laws, and must be capable of conducting advanced police skills such as investigations, patrol and arrest procedures, and gathering of evidence.
- Incumbent will serve as the Weight Enforcement Unit's Training Coordinator, and as such is responsible for keeping records and ensuring that all officers have completed mandatory in-service training and re-certification on the state and federal level, while making certain that all records, logs, and repo1ts confo1m to departmental regulations. Incumbent monitors and evaluates personnel training to ensure training goals and objectives are met. Prepare and implement long range and short range training goals to assure training needs analysis and priorities are met. Incumbent assures that directives and policies are adhered to by all personnel and assures that all new policies, directives and memorandums are forwarded to personnel.
- The incumbent acts as a uniformed commissioned/POST certified Police Officer, and serves as a DOTD representative for the state of Louisiana. The primary focus, of the Agency, is weight and size enforcement of both State and Federal Laws, and must be capable of conducting advanced police skills such as investigations, patrol and arrest procedures, and gathering of evidence. Incumbent serves as an Executive Officer to a functional staff unit who assists in the planning, coordination, and implementation of all aspects of the Weight Enforcement Unit. Incumbent will report directly to the DOTD Enforcement Lieutenant Executive Officer. Incumbent performs and/or assists in a wide variety of duties that require initiative, independent judgment, and responsibility. Incumbent is responsible for daily duties as an Executive Officer and is expected to make sound and independent decisions. Incumbent is required to meet all mandated state and departmental required POST training, qualifications, and certifications.
- Ensure that required statistical repo1ts, time and attendance reports, and other required administrative paperwork is completed in an accurate and timely manner. Assist in preparing overall operational budget for the Weight Enforcement Unit. Reviews leave request, overtime request, tr'aining request, and duty assignments for all personnel within the unit. Incumbent assists in the completion of annual equipment inventories, requisition of new equipment, monitors vehicle maintenance, and makes recommendations to the DOTD Enforcement Lieutenant Executive Officer regarding equipment utilization.
- Conduct fair and impartial planning and evaluation sessions (PES) in accordance with DOTO policy.
- Ensure that Department issued equipment is well maintained a11d used in a manner consistent with DOTD policy. Ensures that all required inventory and supplies are pw-chased and kept in stock for distribution to personnel as needed.
- May be required to perform other duties as necessary including, but not limited to, emergency/disaster support activities.
