The District Sign Specialist Leader is located in DOTD District 62 and perform and oversee sign installation, replacement, and maintenance of signs on all State and Federal highways in accordance with the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD). Provides guidance and oversees the work of lower-level District Sign Specialists. This position is on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and must perform their duties in all types of weather. The incumbent will participate in appropriate DOTD structured training programs as required and attend continuing education classes as deemed necessary.

Minimum Qualifications
Three years of experience in the installation and maintenance of traffic control devices; OR
Two years of experience in the installation and maintenance of traffic control devices plus one year of experience in the operation of mobile equipment for the construction or maintenance of public streets, roads, bridges, highways, railroad rights-of-way, levees, airport runways, taxi strips, parking aprons, or parking lots.
Necessary Special Requirement
Must possess a current Class D Chauffer's License.

Job Duties
Job Duties and Other Information
- Performs all sign installation, replacement, and maintenance on all State and Federal highways in accordance with the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD). Act as lead worker over specific district sign crews, including but not limited to, planning workload for sign specialist crews. Creates lists for crews to repair and/or install signs on roadways needing attention, making signs for crews as requested, training field employees as to proper sign installation. Uses assigned tablet to document work activities.
- Performs routine inspections on all state and federal routes, including urban and rural areas with an emphasis on replacing/refurbishing missing and/or damaged signs.
- Assists in maintaining sign inventory throughout the year. Helps locate and correct errors as they are found. Assists by correcting inventory problems to minimize future errors.
- Ensure daily work reports, material usage log, truck inventory, vehicle usage logs, and vehicle inspection reports are maintained and turned in.
- Takes lead on the implementation of road and lane closures within work group that are required for routine maintenance activities, construction projects, and emergency work. Determines exact placement requirements for speed zones, weight limits, and other regulatory signing by interpreting legal orders with established regulations.

- A valid Louisiana Class “D” Chauffeur’s License
- A minimum lifting capability of 50 pounds will be required for this position.
