About This Job:
The overall function of this position is assist the Project Engineer (Engineer 6 DOTD) or Construction Inspector Supervisor to perform inspections according to Department Specifications and contracts/plans. Must be able to manage a team of inspectors on one or several projects at a time, ensure proper sampling/testing on more than one project and insure timely completion of partial/final estimates and 2059 reports. Perform/review Site Manager DWR’s, assist with ensuring proper training of lower level technicians. Routinely is required to perform duties in extreme weather and hazardous working conditions and is required to use a state vehicle for travel.

Minimum Qualifications
Possession of a high school diploma or GED plus four years of experience in construction inspection or experience in the maintenance of public streets, roads, bridges, highways, or associated structures; OR
Six months of experience in sub-professional engineering, heavy mobile equipment operation, or mobile equipment maintenance plus four years of experience in construction inspection or experience in the maintenance of public streets, roads, bridges, highways, or associated structures; OR
Twenty-four semester hours in one of the following specialized fields: architecture, cartography, construction management, construction technology, drafting, engineering, engineering graphics, engineering technology, industrial technology, landscape architecture, math, or physics; OR
A bachelor's degree in engineering, engineering technology, construction management, or construction technology; OR
Possession of an engineer intern certificate.

- Supervise and lead inspection teams across multiple construction disciplines, including PCC pavement, asphalt, earthwork, utilities, and bridge construction.
- Assign, review, and approve work of junior inspectors while ensuring compliance with plans, specifications, and safety standards.
- Serve as primary liaison with contractor superintendents, coordinating daily project activities and resolving field issues.
- Maintain detailed project documentation in SiteManager, including daily reports, testing records, and field books.
- Track quantities and perform measurements to prepare accurate monthly pay estimates and earthwork calculations.
- Conduct material sampling and testing (e.g., nuclear density/moisture, concrete, asphalt) to verify quality and compliance.
