The maximum annual salary for the Engineer 5 is $126,256.00. In order to qualify for Engineer Intern 1, incumbents must possess a current Louisiana Engineer Intern Certificate. In order to qualify for Engineer Intern 2, incumbents must possess a current Louisiana Engineer Intern Certificate plus one year of professional engineering experience. In order to qualify for Engineer 3, incumbents must possess a current Louisiana License to practice professional engineering. In order to qualify for Engineer 4, incumbents must possess a current Louisiana License to practice professional engineering plus either one year of licensed engineering experience or five years of professional engineering experience. In order to qualify for Engineer 5, incumbents must possess a current Louisiana License to practice professional engineering plus either two years of licensed engineering experience or six years of professional engineering experience.

Job Duties and Other Information
- Assist in directs project design and plan development to ensure conformance with the Department's standards, Federal Highway Administration's policies, AASHTO specifications and all generally accepted structural design practices. Reviews and approves fabrication and erection drawings for strength, material, and constructability issues.
- Serve as Project Manager and Bridge Task Manager. Actively coordinates bridge project development by administering or providing administrative support for the contract design of bridge projects outsourced to consulting engineers and/or leading in-house design personnel teams.
- Contract administration consists of project scoping, negotiation of man-hours and fees, establishing contract time and design criteria; monitoring progress of work for approval of invoices, and evaluating consultant’s performance for quality assurance and control. In-house project development coordination consists of establishing, implementing, and tracking plan development schedules as well as representing the Bridge Design Section's position in project related meetings involving sections within the Department and externally with federal, state, and local officials and private groups and individuals.
- Plays a key role in training section personnel on the appropriate application of design and detailing methodologies, techniques and specifications in structural design, primarily for bridges. This individual is recognized as a senior engineer in the field of structural design and as such, contributes and ensures essential core competencies of the Section.
- Performs preliminary engineering functions which involve preparation and evaluation of feasibility and planning studies involving bridge projects. Determines acceptability of bridge system assumptions as they relate to structural, geometric, hydraulic, and geotechnical design parameters. Serves on pre-design conference teams to establish design criteria prior to project design and development of contract plans.
- Assist the Bridge Design Section in developing design policies and guidelines, reviews AASHTO agenda items for specification revisions, and researches unique problematic issues involving structural systems.
- Performs site-specific field inspections of bridge structures to assess structural and functional problems. Provides emergency engineering services of damaged structures in order to evaluate the ability of the structure to remain in service. Advises and prepares plans for remediation of the damaged structures.
