Landfill Scale House Attendant- Part Time
Landfill Scale House Duties:
- Opepate truck scales.
- Properly identifies carrier of waste.
- Properly determine and record the origin of waste.
- Perform screening of waste to identify prohibited items.
- Direct customers to the proper area for disposal of waste and recyclables.
- Provide information to the public in person and by telephone.
- Works assigned shifts including weekends and holidays.
- Provide daily reports and other documentation as necessary to fulfill the requirements of scale house reporting requirements.
- Cooperate with on-site operations contractor and provide information when necessary.
- Receive and deliver messages to other on-site personnel when necessary.
- Clean scale house building on a daily basis.
- Assist with snow removal when necessary.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Additional Functions:
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
- Knowledge of customer service.
- Knowledge of computer skills.
Ability To:
- Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
- Ability to read and understand labels and instructions, particularly on the use and application of cleaning chemicals and products.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, County employees and the general public.
- Ability to complete OSHA/Safety training as required.
- Ability to be flexible in responding to changes in schedules and job priorities.
- Ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Ability to present a professional, positive and helpful attitude at all times when interacting with County employees, co-workers and the general public. Exhibits an understanding of Human Relations and functions as a “team player”.
- Ability to observe maintenance needs requiring attention and report those to the appropriate supervisor.
- Ability to maintain a high level of professionalism and confidentiality.
Education, Experience and Training:
- High School diploma or GED equivalency preferred.
Working Conditions:
- Environment: Work is typically performed in an indoor setting. The regular workweek is Monday through Saturday. This position will require a flexible schedule to accommodate the business needs of the Department and the County, to include weekend, and holiday hours.
- Physical Effort: May be required to life up to 25 pounds occasionally. Must possess strength, stamina and mobility to perform the physical demands of the job to include some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling.
Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
Hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone and/or radio. Any employee may be required to stay at or return to work during public health incidents and/or emergencies to perform duties specific to this classification or to perform other duties as requested in an assigned response position. This may require working a non-traditional work schedule or working outside normal assigned duties during the incident and/or emergency.
Must be available for regular standby assignments and work scheduled for regular standby assignments; for work scheduled off-hours; for emergency overtime as required.
- Hazards: Exposure to cleaning solutions, chemicals, solvents, oils, petroleum products. Exposure to dust and strong offensive odors. Exposure to inclement weather.
Special Conditions or Requirements:
- Must possess a valid Driver’s License and be 21 years of age;
- Must be willing to submit to a background check, including criminal history, and a Motor Vehicles check;
- Must consent to drug testing consistent with Louisa County’s Workplace Policy;
- Twelve (12) month probationary period.
