Maintenance Technician

This position is responsible for maintaining and repairing operating equipment for a grain elevator. Primary function is to ensure that the machinery and equipment in the facility remain in good working order to optimize productivity and efficiencies. Responsible for complying with all applicable Company standards and government regulations. Maintenance responsibilities include project and outage work. This position may also be responsible for activities related to Millwright/Fabrication.

Education/Professional Certifications/Licenses

The following are the basic qualifications:

• Relevant certification

• High School Diploma/GED

• Valid Drivers license

Preferred qualifications:

• Certificate in Industrial Maintenance

Experience

The following are the basic qualifications:

• Relevant work experience or certification

Preferred qualifications:

• At least one years’ related experience within an industrial / barge loading facility, including conveying equipment, grading grain, grain blending, PLC knowledge, and general maintenance.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities (including any physical demands)

The following are the basic qualifications:

• Knowledgeable and experienced in the use of hand tools, power tools, chain falls, com-a-longs, grinders, drill presses, table saws, etc…

• Must have ability to work from ladders and scaffolds at heights above 6’

• Be able to lift and carry a minimum of 75 lbs.

• Must be able to work in dusty conditions

• Must be able to work frequently in inclement weather

• Must be aware and attentive to surroundings which may include automatic starting conveyors belts and other moving machinery

• Must be able to climb, bend, kneel, squat, and crawl occasionally and stand and walk frequently

• Knowledge of conveyor belts, legs, pneumatic/hydraulic systems pumps, winches, dust systems

• Ability to perform all duties of position while maintaining compliance with regulatory safety requirements, e.g., OSHA (including PSM), EPA, USDA,

• Ability to provide instruction with respect to machine operation/repair

• Ability to climb stairs and ladders as well as work at heights; manage confined space entry, withstand extended periods of walking and standing; move manufacturing materials, products and equipment of 75 pounds or more which requires regular bending and lifting

• Mechanical aptitude

Equipment Used

• Production machinery and operating equipment (forklifts, tractors, payloaders, skid steers, & other equipment)

• Use of proper personal protective equipment

• Typical hand tools, power tools, chain falls, com-a-longs, grinders, drill presses, table saws, etc…

Working Conditions

• 8, 10, 12 hour shifts.

• There is expected overtime during projects or downtime periods.

• Regular exposure to a variety of temperatures and prevailing weather conditions; regular exposure to, vapors, dust, odors and; occasional exposure to areas with wet floors and high volume of noise.

• Position will require regular stair climbing and extended periods of walking and standing in order to access remote areas of the plant, heights and confined spaces.

• Personal protective equipment will be worn in compliance with Company standards and government regulations.

• Call-ins or the extension of regular working hours are occasionally necessary to complete time-sensitive projects, attend training or to respond to emergencies.

Decision Making/Accountability

Follows supervisor’s directions to ensure peak production efficiencies and product quality. Employs an understanding of Company standards and government regulations with respect to areas of responsibility to ensure ongoing compliance.
