We're a small, scrappy nonprofit helping wildfire survivors in the LA area rebuild their homes. We launched after the 2025 Los Angeles fires and we're still very much figuring things out as we go. We have community events, survivor stories, prefab housing education, and direct aid. It's a lot, and we're a small team.

We need help with grants. We don't have an existing system, so this would mean starting from scratch. That means building the core materials, identifying realistic opportunities, and writing applications. It's volunteer for now, and we want to be upfront about that. Compensation is something we're committed to revisiting as funding grows.

What the work looks like

There's no existing grant infrastructure here, so you'd be building it from scratch. You'll draft the core materials we'll use across every future application, identify the right opportunities (not every one, the right ones), write submissions, and keep things organized without overcomplicating them. You'll work directly with our founder and have a clear view of where everything is going.

What you get out of it

• A path to a paid role. If it's a good fit, bringing you on as a paid grant writer is the goal as funding comes in.
• Hands-on portfolio work on an active recovery effort
• The opportunity to work on something that directly helps families stay in the city they call home

Who we're looking for

Experience level is open. What matters is that you write clearly, think strategically, and can work with some ambiguity. If you've written grants before, great. If you're building your experience and want a project with real stakes, this could be a good fit. LA-based preferred, fully remote and flexible on schedule.

What we're working on

Three programs: Rebuild Ready (prefab housing education), House to Home (furniture, appliances, and essential kits for families in transition), and Community Voices (a survivor-led writing platform and community events). These are what you'd be writing for.
