What are the responsibilities and job description for the CNA Clinical Instructor – LVN/RN (On-Site, Skilled Nursing Facility) position at Lotus Medical Career College?
Overview
We are seeking a CNA Clinical Instructor (LVN/RN) to supervise and train Certified Nursing Assistant students during their on-site clinical hours at a partnered skilled nursing / long-term care facility. This role is perfect for an LVN or RN who loves bedside care, mentoring new CNAs, and teaching hands-on skills more than sitting behind a desk. You will coach students directly at the patient’s bedside, model safe and compassionate care, and help them build confidence to pass the California CNA exam and succeed in their first job.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise CNA students during clinical rotations at an approved skilled nursing or long-term care facility.
- Demonstrate and reinforce core CNA skills: ADLs, vital signs, transfers, toileting, feeding, positioning, infection control, safety, and basic documentation.
- Provide real-time bedside coaching, feedback, and redirection to ensure safe, dignified, patient-centered care.
- Use clinical checklists and direct observation to evaluate student competencies and document progress per CDPH and program standards.
- Ensure strict adherence to facility policies, infection control, and resident rights at all times.
- Communicate student performance, concerns, and incident reports promptly to the program director/DSD and facility leadership.
- Collaborate with floor staff to integrate students into the unit workflow without disrupting patient care.
- Serve as a positive role model and mentor, promoting professionalism, teamwork, and strong work ethic.
Required Qualifications
- Current California LVN or RN license, active and in good standing.
- Meets California Department of Public Health (CDPH) requirements to serve as a CNA Clinical Instructor (including required long-term care experience and/or DSD eligibility).
- Minimum 2 years of nursing experience, with at least 1 year providing direct patient care to elderly or chronically ill patients in a skilled nursing facility, long-term care, hospital, hospice, or similar setting.
- Prior experience as a preceptor, charge nurse, or mentor to CNAs, nursing assistants, or nursing students.
- Strong bedside teaching skills: able to break down tasks, demonstrate step-by-step, and adapt to adult learners with diverse backgrounds.
- Reliable, professional, and comfortable giving clear, constructive feedback in real time.
Preferred Qualifications
- DSD (Director of Staff Development) certificate or willingness to obtain within required timeframe.
- Experience in skilled nursing / long-term care strongly preferred.
- Bilingual (Spanish/English) a plus.
What We Offer
- Opportunity to shape the next generation of CNAs in your own community.
- Hands-on, bedside teaching role with no traditional lecture requirement.
- Supportive team, clear curriculum, and established clinical checklists.
Who This Role Is For
This position is ideal for an LVN or RN who:
- With 2 years of nursing experience
- Naturally mentors new CNAs and takes pride in “growing” strong entry-level staff.
- Wants a meaningful, mission-driven side role or flexible position that directly improves patient care by building confident, competent CNAs.
