Position Summary
This position is responsible for inspection, repair and upgrade of mechanical and hydraulic equipment, piping, electrical equipment, and calibrations throughout the assigned plant site. Work areas are assigned based upon the technician’s skills and experience.
Essential Job Functions
Maintenance Technicians perform work in assigned areas such as, but not limited to, electrical, instrumentation, rotating equipment, and fixed equipment/piping/welding. An employee in this position may progress as training and abilities increase. Technicians are expected to perform the following duties with increasing levels of proficiency:
- Performs preventative maintenance on equipment, systems, piping, etc.; ensures availability of equipment; responds to operational needs as assigned; follows all maintenance procedures; updates procedures as applicable
- Troubleshoots, inspects and repairs equipment in accordance with manufacturer specifications; stays current on standards for mechanical equipment used
- Works with reliability engineering and other departments as necessary

Specific work by Craft:
- Rotating Equipment Technician: Repairs and aligns rotating equipment including, but not limited to, hydraulic systems, pumps, compressors, and chiller units as assigned
- Instrument Technician: Handles instrumentation work as assigned; repairs, troubleshoots, upgrades, and calibrates various equipment and devices used by Company as assigned
- Electrical Technician: Handles electrical work as assigned; demonstrates knowledge of electrical circuits, single and three phase electrical systems, electrical codes, voltage, and currents to work in assigned area
- Fixed Equipment Technician: Handles fixed equipment/piping work including, but not limited to, tower, vessel, tank, heat exchanger, piping, valves and specialty piping; understands general welding work assigned; oversees welding contractors as requested
- Analyzer Technician: Responsible for inspection, repair, upgrade and calibrations of analyzers throughout the assigned plant site
- Requests material from warehouse for assigned work following Company procedures; performs or assists in performing inspections of delivered materials, parts and equipment when necessary
- Performs and assists in installation, modification and inspection work when applicable
- Acts as team leader to other technicians as required, assists team members as appropriate
- Coordinates and schedules repairs and projects with operations, planning and contractor personnel
- Assists with maintenance needs during pre-commissioning, commissioning, construction, and turn-arounds as directed
- Keeps equipment and tools organized and in good working condition; keeps work area clean
- Tracks maintenance activities utilizing computerized maintenance system; assists in establishing and maintaining filing system
- Maintains maintenance documents including, but not limited to, equipment numbers, maintenance performed and equipment condition; updates document control as required
- Communicates spare part needs; assists in establishing inventory levels necessary for equipment and assets in assigned area/s; provides specifications to inventory control personnel as requested
- Trains regularly on all Federal, state and local environmental regulations, requirements and guidelines including, but not limited to, RCRA requirements; follows and adheres to all guidelines, regulations, and requirements
- Assumes delegated responsibilities of Maintenance Foreman in his or her absence as requested
- Abides by all safety procedures and practices applicable to location and position; participates in appropriate safety training; demonstrates commitment to and support of EHSS principles and values; champions safety at all times; participates in and/or leads safety teams or projects as appropriate
- Performs other duties assigned by management that generally fall within the expected scope of this position

Experience & KSA’s Required
- Experience in plant operations, especially in petrochemical environment preferred
- Minimum of 3 to 5 years’ experience in field such as electrical, instrumentation, rotating or fixed equipment, piping, or welding in a petrochemical or similar industrial facility
- Ability to read, interpret and follow written job instructions and directions
- Knowledge of electrical codes, voltage, current, and power levels; experience working with single three phase electrical systems, power distribution systems, conduit and raceway installations
- Ability to read, interpret and follow manuals and other regulatory documents as applicable
- Ability to read and understand safety procedures, including OSHA standards and regulations
- Basic mathematical skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division; ability to work with fractions and perform various mathematical conversions commonly used in petrochemical industry
- Understanding of general business concepts
- Must be able to work varying and/or rotating shifts
- Experience working with Federal, state and local environmental regulations including RCRA
- Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and follow through on assignments
- Good computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite; ability to use database systems and other programs and applications used by this position and at Company
- Fluent in English language including reading, writing and speaking; ability to read and write at a minimum of high school level; ability to clearly communicate to all levels in organization
Education Requirement
- State license for areas such as Electrical Journeyman, electrician, welding, millwright, instrumentation, boilermaker, or other maintenance areas preferred
- Technology degree helpful

This position requires an employee to be exposed to outside elements. Most extreme elements are heat in the summer months of up to 100° and some exposure to cold of generally no less than 0° in the winter months. There will be exposure to various chemicals and compounds, including fumes and smells, some of them hazardous. The employee will enter confined spaces and work in elevated environments. Employee must be able to wear PPE required by the location. Loud sounds and vibrations will be experienced at times. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. All environments are safe with appropriate PPE.
