Job Summary:
The Team Leader is responsible for coordinating daily production activities within their assigned production area while operating and monitoring equipment to ensure safe, efficient, and consistent production. This position serves as the first level of operational leadership, providing technical expertise, training, troubleshooting support, and coordination between Production, Quality, and Maintenance functions.
The Team Leader applies advanced knowledge and experience to maintain stable operations, resolve complex issues, improve process performance, and ensure compliance with safety and quality standards. In addition to leading and supporting team members, this role is expected to maintain full hands-on proficiency in the equipment and processes of their assigned area, owning the process end-to-end and providing operational coverage during employee absences, vacations, call-ins, and other staffing shortages to maintain production continuity.
The Team Leader works with a high degree of independence, supports personnel through coaching and on-the-job training, coordinates shift activities, and promotes a culture of safety, accountability, product quality, and continuous improvement.
Job Responsibilities:
Process Ownership & Machine Operation
- Maintain full working proficiency in the equipment and processes of the assigned production area, including material handling and staging of stock for production
- Utilize the production plan to sequence and prepare work
- Set up and input necessary parameters into the control system prior to machine start-up
- Monitor product and machine condition during operation, making adjustments as needed to maintain specifications
- Perform hands-on machine operation as needed, including during employee absences, vacations, call-ins, and other staffing shortages, to maintain production continuity
- Collect scrap and rejected material and transport to the designated area
- Support machine maintenance and troubleshoot equipment as needed
- Manipulate the unit based on work instructions while providing input on process improvements
- Inspect, maintain, and replace consumable machine components (such as tooling, filters, blades, or media) as required by the process
- Measure and register quality parameters during production
- Supervise tools and machine parts to ensure proper condition and readiness
- Keep work and production areas clean
- Register production data and ensure the accuracy of records
- Adhere to safety and fire protection regulations to protect yourself and your colleagues
- Work according to quality, environmental, and safety regulations, standards, control plans, and work instructions
Leadership & Administrative Responsibilities
- Coordinate daily shift activities and assign work priorities to operators based on production requirements
- Conduct shift handoff communication and ensure continuity of operations between shifts
- Provide guidance, coaching, and on-the-job training to team members while promoting adherence to safety, quality, and productivity standards
- Support employee development by identifying training needs and assisting supervisors with skill assessments
- Monitor and support achievement of production KPIs, including productivity, yield, scrap, downtime, OEE, and quality targets
- Communicate daily production results and operational concerns to supervisors and management
- Inform the maintenance department and shift coordinators of any discrepancies in machine operations or breakdowns
- Collaborate with Quality, Maintenance, and Production teams to resolve issues and support process improvements
- Participate in internal rejection and claim investigations, and in root cause analysis for production issues, downtime, and defects
- Support customer audits and internal inspections
- Document non-conformities and participate in corrective and preventive actions
- Other duties and tasks as assigned

Education and Experience:
- High School Diploma is required
- Vocational school is preferred
- User level of computer knowledge – basic level in MS Office (Word, Excel)
- Minimum of 3–5 years in metal or aluminum industry or equivalent
- Knowledge or experience working with or operating manufacturing machines
- Experience supporting process improvements and training others preferred
Physical Requirements:
While performing the essential duties of this job, the employee will be required to walk and stand for prolonged periods of time.
Physically able to conduct inspections on machines and capable of physically moving equipment used for inspections.
Lifting required.
Must be comfortable working in an industrial manufacturing environment. Must be able to climb stairs frequently throughout each day. There are times when you will need to walk throughout the manufacturing plant floor or walk between buildings, which includes but is not limited to walking outside, walking up and down stairs, walking across metal grates and potentially being in contact with slippery surfaces.
