Assistant Principal, Secondary Counseling Services


Roy Romer Middle School, located in North Hollywood, serves approximately 740 students in grades 6–8 on a traditional calendar. The student population is highly diverse: approximately 85% Latino, 7% White, 4% African American, and 4% Asian/Other. About 25% are English Learners, 13% receive Special Education services, and 10% are identified as Gifted and Talented (GATE). The school is a Title I site with a strong commitment to equity, culturally responsive teaching, and college and career readiness.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE:

is seeking a dynamic and experienced Assistant Principal, Secondary Counseling Services (APSCS) to join our leadership team. This role is critical in ensuring every student has access to a high-quality, equitable education that prepares them for graduation and beyond.

The APSCS will oversee the development and maintenance of the school’s master schedule, ensure students are appropriately programmed to meet their academic and A–G requirements, and provide direct support to the principal in all administrative functions. This leader will also serve in multiple designee roles and play a key part in advancing our school’s mission.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain the school’s master schedule and course matrix
  • Ensure all students are properly programmed to meet academic, A–G, and graduation requirements
  • Lead the Coordination of Services Team (COST) and oversee implementation of MTSS, behavior intervention strategies, and restorative practices
  • Design and deliver professional development to improve pedagogy and support staff growth
  • Facilitate data analysis conversations to identify student needs and drive instructional and programmatic decisions
  • Collaborate effectively with students, staff, parents, and community stakeholders

SALARY:

SALARY: 40G - B Basis ($116,751 – $145,407) – 221 paid days

  • For employees who change basis during the school year, this basis change may prevent them from earning a full year of service credit.
  • For an annualized employee who is changing basis during the year, this change may result in an annualized “settlement” (i.e., the process by which the District resolves an under or overpayment).
  • Selected individual may be subject to displacement due to norm allocation and seniority based RIF provisions or due to budget limitations.


REQUIRED EXPERIENCE (PUBLIC SCHOOL SETTING):

  • Five years of successful full-time public school district certificated service
  • A minimum of three years of experience as a teacher in a K-12 program
  • No fewer than two years of successful experience in a middle/senior high school counseling office

Employees who have been issued a below-standard Performance Evaluation, or Notice of Unsatisfactory Act(s) and/or Suspension, shall be ineligible for application to any promotion process for one calendar year following the issuance of such a Notice.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS INCLUDE:

  • A valid California teaching credential requiring a Bachelor's degree and a program of professional preparation, including student teaching
  • A valid California Administrative Services Credential • Multicultural coursework*
  • A valid Pupil Personnel Services Credential
  • Master’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university • District Master Plan requirements*

  • Candidates have one year to complete this requirement

For all school based administrative positions, candidates must be in the appropriate LAUSD eligible pool for the position or currently serving in the class for which they are applying. In order to be placed in the eligible pool, candidates must successfully complete the appropriate LAUSD Aspiring Administrator Program. Qualified applicants not in an eligible pool from within or outside LAUSD may be considered if fewer than five applicants from the eligible pool apply for the position.

  • Master Scheduling: Developing and maintaining the master schedule and course matrix using student data to ensure equitable access to a rigorous curriculum
  • Collaboration & Culture: Partnering with students, staff, families, and community members to build a positive school culture and ensure all students have access to challenging, high-quality programs
  • Professional Development & College Readiness: Designing and leading professional development and training for staff, students, and parents on A–G requirements, Individual Graduation Plans (IGPs), and college and career readiness
