Position: Artist Department Intern

Position Status: Part-Time, Non-Exempt

Reports to: Manager, Artist Services

Compensation: Hourly, LA County Minimum Wage

Department: Programming

Internship Term: Internship will ideally begin mid-June and will conclude by mid-September with a maximum of 400 hours.

About The Los Angeles Philharmonic Association

The Los Angeles Philharmonic Association was founded in 1919 and is currently led by the visionary Venezuelan conductor Gustavo Dudamel, who became its eleventh Music Director in 2009. The LA Phil serves more than one million people annually through 300 classical, jazz, world music, and pop concert offerings at Walt Disney Concert Hall, the Hollywood Bowl, and The Ford. In addition, the LA Phil serves approximately 60,000 children and their families each year through Learning initiatives each year.

Position Summary

The Artist Department Intern will assist in all aspects of artist logistical arrangements for Los Angeles Philharmonic productions at the Hollywood Bowl during its 2024 season. A large part of their work will include coordinating the daily driving schedule, collecting and compiling information about LA Philharmonic guest artists and assisting with artist travel, hospitality, and ticket needs. If offered remotely, the internship will have responsibilities related to artist booking, production and filming at the Hollywood Bowl, and artist and travel support.

Position Elements

• Coordinate daily driving schedule for driving staff, in conjunction with Artist Department and Presentations staff.
• Assist department staff with arrangements for guest artists, including travel & hotel arrangements, rehearsal & performance schedules, ticketing & parking needs and backstage hospitality orders.
• Work with LA Philharmonic staff, travel agents, car rental companies, artists, artist management, hotel staff and other related individuals in a manner that fosters and maintains positive working relationships.
• Assist department staff with maintenance of artist files.
• Intern will not be required to work concert duty. However, at the discretion of the Manager of Artist Services, they may be given additional artist-related responsibilities on a few productions, which may include concert duty.

Minimum Requirements

• Must meet the LA County Arts Internship Program requirements.
• Must be highly organized, accurate and detail-oriented.
• Must be reliable and dependable, as well as focused and self-motivated.
• Must be able to juggle large quantities of information and meet deadlines.
• Should possess strong oral and written communication skills.
• Should be a team player with the ability to remain calm under pressure.
• Must be computer literate (Word, Excel, Outlook, Internet).
• Should have an ambition to learn about concert production and artist/orchestra management.
• Passion about music and the arts a plus.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive situations with excellent judgment and discretion.
  
  

This internship is sponsored by the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors through the Los Angeles County Arts Commission. 132 undergraduate interns will participate in the program this year at 119 performing, presenting, and literary nonprofit arts organizations and municipal arts agencies throughout LA County. In addition to their full-time 10 week paid internship, interns will participate in educational events as part of the program, which is funded by the Getty Foundation. The educational events are designed to provide interns with a broader perspective of the vibrant arts and cultural landscape of the County.
