The LA Jazz Festival is seeking a Youth Camp Director who will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of the festival's youth camp program. This includes developing and implementing camp curriculum, managing camp staff, ensuring camper safety, coordinating logistics, and working closely with festival organizers to ensure a successful event.

The LA Jazz Festival is a bold new entry into the global jazz festival market. Featuring 17 days of music, art, fashion, food, culture, presented throughout Los Angeles County and culminating with a breathtaking weekend featuring a 4-stage Caribbean Street Festival and two weekend days on Dockweiler beach during the height of LA’s warmest and best coastal climates. The LA Jazz Festival will harness the destination lifestyle approach featuring 25 free concerts in parks, a full youth jazz camp, a two day jazz conference, a fashion show and two days of coastal cultural tours to tell the history of coastal racial pushout as well as celebrating coastal enthusiasts of color. At its core, LA Jazz Fest will feature a world-class line-up that creatively curates “jazz to Hip Hop and everything in between”. Musicians from around the world will play at multiple venues while keeping the majority of tickets free. Los Angeles is the sports and entertainment capital of the world and soon will join leading cities globally in hosting a dynamic, multi-dimensional music and cultural festival which supports area youth and promotes coastal protection.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement camp curriculum in line with the festival's theme and goals
- Manage camp staff, including recruiting, hiring, training, and supervising counselors, instructors, and volunteers
- Ensure the safety and well-being of all campers, including developing and enforcing policies and procedures, conducting regular safety checks, and providing first aid and emergency care as needed
- Coordinate logistics for the camp, including scheduling, transportation, equipment, and supplies
- Communicate with parents and guardians regarding camper progress, concerns, and feedback
- Work closely with festival organizers to ensure a successful and cohesive event
- Participate in festival planning meetings and collaborate with other festival staff and volunteers as needed
- Manage camp budget and ensure expenses are within allocated limits
- Evaluate camp performance and make recommendations for future improvements
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in education, music, or a related field preferred
- Experience working with youth in a camp or educational setting
- Experience managing staff, including hiring, training, and supervision
- Excellent organizational and communication skills
- Ability to work collaboratively and effectively with festival staff, volunteers, and partners
- Passion for music and the arts, particularly jazz
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends
- First Aid/CPR certification preferred
