What are the responsibilities and job description for the AY26 - Diesel and Related Technology Instructor position at Los Angeles Community College District?
LATTC is seeking a dynamic and innovative faculty member to teach the Heavy Truck & Bus and/or Rail vehicle repair courses and actively support student success.
- Bachelor’s degree and two years of professional experience in heavy Truck & Bus and/or Rail vehicle repair; or
- Associate’s degree and six years of professional experience in heavy Truck & Bus and/or Rail vehicle repair.
- A sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability and ethnic backgrounds of the community college students, faculty and staff.
GENERAL REQUIREMENTS:
A medical certificate indicating fitness to engage in administrative work is required for new employees at the applicant’s expense prior to employment.

Desirable Qualifications:
- Master Certification Status in ASE Medium-Heavy Truck (T1 through T8, L2);
- Experience in working with heavy duty hybrid, electric and alternative fuel vehicles (i.e. CNG, LNG);
- Experience working with various multiplexing/CAN networking systems;
- Experience working with medium and heavy-duty bus and truck systems, including:
- Experience with/knowledge of rail equipment and support systems;
- Experience with/knowledge of high voltage electrical systems;
- Commitment to professional growth and development as well as continued innovation and improvement of the diesel and rail program;
- Knowledge of the Automotive Service Excellence Education Foundation accreditation process;
- Experience in the use of computer technology and other instructional technology to facilitate high quality Instruction;
- Evidence of ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, staff, faculty and administrators including the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing;
- Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with on-campus groups as well as community and industry partners;
- Experience in the development of course syllabi that include course requirements, student learning outcomes (SLO), evaluation (grading) procedures, and attendance requirements;
- Experience working in environments with faculty, staff and students from diverse, academic, socioeconomic cultural, and ethnic backgrounds.
Duties and Responsibilities:
This position requires a commitment to the college of over 30 hours per week including over
21 hours of teaching. Evening and/or week-end classes may be scheduled based on the department’s
needs. Duties of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Develop and update courses and curricula, develop and assess Student/Program Learning Outcomes and participate in the Program Review process;
- Develop resources, materials and strategies, including multimedia technology to teach students in a multicultural environment;
- Participate in consortiums, advisories, and department meetings;
- Maintain accurate records of grades, attendance, and class exclusions in accordance with LACCD policy, rules, regulations and procedures;
- Maintain and update Medium/Heavy Truck and related training, ASE certifications and licenses;
- Maintain professional and ethical academic standards of the Department and the College;
- Demonstrate sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disabled and ethnic background of community college faculty, staff and students
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Salary and Benefits
Current starting range is from $76,960 to $143,000 for the 10-month academic year. The doctoral differential is $4,870 per academic year.. An excellent benefit package which includes medical, vision, dental, and life insurance is available for the employee and eligible dependents.
