What You Will Do
As a Deputy Division Leader within the Associate Laboratory Directorate for Environment, Safety, Health, and Quality (ALDESHQ), you will report to the Division Leader for Waste Management (WM-DO). In this role, you will support the Division Leader in the leadership, technical oversight, and management of hazardous/chemical, low-level radioactive, mixed low-level, New Mexico Special and Toxic Substances Control Act waste at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL).
Your responsibilities will include contributing to strategic planning and tactical execution to help the Directorate achieve its goals for business and operational excellence. Exceptional communication and customer service skills will be essential to sustaining effective relationships with key mission stakeholders.
A key focus area will be developing a long-term strategy to ensure the Division has the staffing and funding resources needed to meet future programmatic mission requirements. Other duties will involve supporting the Division Leader in resource allocation, succession planning, mentoring, recruiting, and retaining qualified staff, as well as using fact-based decision making to anticipate and resolve environmental protection and compliance issues.
The WM-DO has approximately 120 employees and is responsible for providing leadership in waste management to anticipate and manage waste risks in support of the LANL mission. This division works closely with LANL's Environmental Protection and Compliance Division to ensure waste management practices comply with Federal and State of New Mexico regulatory requirements, as well as Department of Energy Orders.
