What You Will Do
The Security Systems (SO-SS) Physical Security Team is responsible for overseeing physical security at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL). The physical security specialist will perform a full range of security functions including, but not limited to, ensuring new Laboratory construction projects meet or exceed physical security requirements, all vault and vault type rooms are certified to National Nuclear Security Administration standards, and that all security barriers and areas meet requirements. The identified candidate will help identify risks, threats and vulnerabilities, and coordinate and implement mitigation strategies. The individual will also be expected to coordinate security requirements with a diverse audience, including managers, and help provide solutions in order to securely meet the overall work objective.

Essential Job Functions: (can perform with or without reasonable accommodation) This position requires the ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds, climb ladders, work in uneven and rocky terrain, crawl in confined or rugged spaces, and perform movements such as squatting or duck walking as needed to complete job tasks safely and effectively.
Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.
Position Commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.

What You Need

- Working knowledge or experience in one or more of the following areas - project planning and management, program management, personnel security, access control, classified matter protection and control, physical security, protection programs, or vulnerability analysis.
- Working knowledge of DOE Orders and LANL requirements as related to Physical Security, and Escorting.
- Basic knowledge analyzing physical security issues and providing cost-effective recommendations that meet policy requirements.
- Demonstrated oral and written communication skills.
- Knowledge of ICD/ISC-705 SCIF alarm testing methodology.
- Basic knowledge of Interior Intrusion System (IDS) and the Perimeter Intrusion Detection Alarm System (PIDAS).
- Demonstrated experience with Security Areas physical protection requirements.
