What You Will Do
The Engineering Services Division of Los Alamos National Laboratory develops, maintains, and applies a diverse set of engineering capabilities to provide innovative engineering solutions that enable the Laboratory's scientific and national security mission. This position is within the Engineering Services Division Office (ES-DO). ES Groups are responsible for implementing the Conduct of Engineering (COE) program at Los Alamos National Laboratory in support of systems, structure and component modifications and new installations. This position supports nuclear, accelerator or non-nuclear facilities across 38 square miles of the Laboratory.
Note: This position will be filled at either the Engineer 1/Engineer 2 level depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.
Instrumentation and Control Engineer Level 1 ($96,600 - $158,000)
The position requires a skilled professional who applies principles and concepts in system and facility configuration and technical baseline management. As part of the Engineering team you will modify, renovate, and design complete Building Automation Systems (BAS) including the specification and sizing of controllers, electromechanical devices, sensors, networks, and computer hardware, developing graphical and text-based interfaces for building automation systems, utilizing CAD to develop control drawing sets, and programming control algorithms.
Instrumentation and Control Engineer Level 2 ($106,400 - $176,000)
In addition to what was outlined at the Instrumentation and Control Engineer 1, at this level you will be working as part of a design team assessing, maintaining, and upgrading facility systems at LANL. Specific tasks will include developing contract documents consisting of drawings, specifications, calculations and special inspections in order to maintain the technical baseline for new and existing systems throughout the facility lifecycle. This will require interfacing and coordinating with all stakeholders including other engineering disciplines, equipment manufacturers and customers during design and construction to establish design requirements, scope, cost, and modifications for projects.

Education/Experience for Engineer 2: Position requires a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering and a minimum of 3 years of practical work experience necessary to perform the responsibilities outlined above. Advanced engineering or technical degree is highly desired.

What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
- Ability to prepare calculations, apply engineering methods, and apply technology aided engineering tools to facility and operations-based engineering challenges
- Ability to support timely and collaborative construction execution. This includes timely review of submittals, requests for information (RFIs), design changes, non-conformance issues, validation of commissioning documentation and produce accurate as-built documents
- Basic knowledge of engineering principles, codes, and standards
- Demonstrated knowledge of basic engineering principles, codes, and standards
- Demonstrated design experience in commercial and/or government sectors
- Demonstrated experience in the development of engineering drawings, specifications, calculations, test and inspection plans (TIPs), and statements of special inspection (SSIs)
- Demonstrated experience in the scoping of complex projects to produce an estimate of engineering costs for both design and construction activities
- Working experience in creation of sequences of operation for the control of building systems, developing control schematics, wiring diagrams, programs, and graphics, testing of programming and interfaces prior to deployment, functional testing (commissioning) of building systems, and technical support during installation process
Education/Experience for Engineer 2: Position requires a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering and a minimum of 3 years of practical work experience necessary to perform the responsibilities outlined above. Advanced engineering or technical degree is highly desired.
Desired Qualifications:
- Current registration as a professional engineer (any US State)
- Design experience in nuclear, accelerator or industrial facility operations
- Master's degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited college or university
- Experienced in producing designs utilizing AutoCAD and/or Revit tools and work processes
- Knowledge of DOE, LANL Engineering Standards, and Conduct of Engineering principles and procedures
- Experience with BAS Software, associated engineering tools, graphic software (Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, etc.), and Microsoft Visio
- Experience with Automated Logic and Phoenix software, including WebCtrl, SiteBuilder, ViewBuilder, LogicBuilder, InterOp 3.02, Alert, Draw, EDB, Eikon, Supervision, and Accel Works
