AVAILABLE BEFORE 2/11/2027
What You Will Do

The NSRC is seeking an experienced, collaborative History Team Leader to lead a multidisciplinary team of historians, librarians/archivists, and multimedia specialists in mission-driven historical research, interpretation, outreach, and publication development. This role combines scholarly leadership, project execution, stakeholder engagement, and team coordination.

The History Team Leader will oversee a portfolio of historical initiatives that may include institutional and mission-support projects, interpretive research, staff outreach activities such as tours and lectures, and the development of historical products including learning content, books, articles, exhibits, and digital resources.

This position is responsible for overseeing the scope, schedule, and budget of all history projects, as well as the tasking and coordination of team resources across those projects to ensure timely, high-quality delivery. The ideal candidate is both a strong historian and an effective leader who can guide rigorous historical work, manage complex projects, build partnerships, and foster a positive and productive team environment.

This position requires a motivated, professional individual who can adapt quickly, work independently, and thrive within a collaboratively defined scope of work. Scope and priorities are established in partnership with WRS leadership and weapons program customers to ensure historical work aligns with mission needs, clear objectives, and evolving requirements. The selected candidate will work directly with program stakeholders to validate requirements, define deliverables, and coordinate work across the team with a high degree of autonomy and accountability.

Technical Knowledge: Demonstrated experience in historical research, interpretation, historical methodology, and analytical frameworks. Experience conducting and guiding rigorous archival and primary source research. Experience translating historical research into applied mission support, interpretive conveyance, or written products. Knowledge of best practices in historical communication, including exhibits, lectures, tours, educational materials, and digital history products.

Project Management: Demonstrated ability to convert concepts and strategic objectives into executable projects with measurable outcomes. Ability to manage a portfolio of history projects simultaneously while balancing priorities, deadlines, and competing demands. Experience overseeing project scope, schedule, and budget across projects, and tasking/allocating team resources to meet project objectives effectively. Familiarity with coordinating interdisciplinary efforts, tracking progress, managing risks, and aligning historical work with broader organizational goals. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in both planning and execution.

Customer Relations and Stakeholder Engagement: Ability to build effective working relationships with both internal and external stakeholders. Experience collaborating with leadership, subject matter experts, partner organizations, and/or public audiences. Ability to assess customer needs and translate them into achievable projects scopes and deliverables. Experience presenting historical findings/analysis to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Leadership: Demonstrated ability to lead, mentor, and coordinate a team; plan, schedule, and assign work; provide feedback; support professional development; and ensure high-quality deliverables aligned with organizational priorities.
