What You Will Do
The GIS Program within the Associate Lab Directorate for Infrastructure and Capital Projects is in search of excellent candidates for the position of either a Post-Baccalaureate Student or Undergraduate Student (UGS) highly interested in the application of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) as it applies to LANL operations. The GIS Program provides institutional GIS support across LANL, primarily focusing on areas associated with LANL operations, such as Planning, Environmental and Waste Compliance, Utilities and Infrastructure, Safety, and Security. We provide a standard set of services to the institution ranging from standard cartographic
production, spatial data development and maintenance, analysis and modeling, to web and mobile application development within the ESRI ArcGIS Platform. We are seeking interested students with educational and/or work experience in GIS either pursuing or who have obtained degrees either directly in GIS or related fields (Geography, Planning, Environmental Sciences, Engineering, etc.). Successful students will need to be highly motivated and able to work independently and within a team to complete customer drive requests as well as GIS Team maintenance and operations activities. Students must have excellent verbal and written communication
skills in order to interact directly with a diverse set of customers.

What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
- Strong interest in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) applied to fields associated with LANL Operations, such as, Environment (biology, archaeology, ecology, waste), Planning, Engineering, Utilities, Emergency Operations, Security.
- Experience providing excellent customer service.
- Strong organizational skills, including the ability to prioritize and work on multiple projects simultaneously.
- Strong communication skills, both orally and in writing.
- Experience working effectively as part of a team with a willingness to assist and support other team members as needed.
- Proven ability to produce quality work by applying attention to detail, managing time, and seeing tasks to completion.
Desired Qualifications:
- Working knowledge of ArcGIS Pro and associated extensions (Spatial Analyst, 3D Analyst, etc.
- Understanding of ArcGIS Enterprise including Enterprise Geodatabases, Server, and Portal.
- Experience in cartographic production using ArcMap/ArcGIS Pro and knowledge of cartographic principles.
- Understanding of Geographic vs Projected Coordinate systems.
- Basic knowledge of GIS development related languages, Python, Javascript, Arcade, SQL, etc.
Education/Experience:
- Bachelor's degree (for Post-bacc) or in-process (for UGS) with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 on 4.0 scale.
- Degree (or pursuing) in GIS or related field (Geography, Planning, Environmental Sciences, etc.) with significant course work in GIS.
