What You Will Do
The Accelerator Operations and Technology Division Applied Electrodynamics (AOT-AE) group is seeking an Engineering Systems Technician 3/4 to provide expertise, support, and technical help aspects of Pulsed Power and Injectors teams operation that maintains and upgrades various electronic and high voltage equipment. The team plays a supporting role in LANSCE accelerator operations and beam delivery. The work of the Engineering Systems Technician may be mechanical or electronic. The individual will support engineers, physicists, operators, technologists, and other technicians and participate in activities that span from maintenance and upgrades of current systems to design work that will lead to development of the future ion injector & pulsed power systems. A questioning mentality is the main requirement to thrive in this position.
Additionally, the candidate will be required to provide on-call support after hours and on weekends. The on-call assignment will typically be one week per month during accelerator operations, which spans about seven months per year.
This position will be filled at either the Engineering Systems Technician 3 or Engineering Systems Technician 4 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.
Engineered Systems Technician 3 $64,700 - $101,400
The selected Engineering Systems Technician will be learning from and working with experienced technologists, technicians, scientists, and engineers with a wealth of knowledge to share. The successful applicant will be required to obtain an understanding of alternating current (AC) and direct current (DC) systems, mechanical construction, wiring and printed circuit board assembly, familiarity with programmable logic controllers (PLCs), fast digital logic and electronics troubleshooting, basic water and air pressure systems, and hazardous chemical handling. Assisting with documentation of system operation and tests. The successful applicant's main job will be to learn from our team and assist with day-to-day operations. The successful applicant would be encouraged to pursue further electronics training.
Engineered Systems Technician 4: $71,200 - $112,900
In addition to what was outlined above at the Technician 3 level, Technician 4 will be required to lead troubleshooting and repair of various equipment and write system documentation for complex electrical/electronic systems.

Education/ Experience at Level 4: Position requires an associate's degree in a related field and a minimum of five (5) years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation. At this level, additional training and/or certification is preferred.

What You Need

- Demonstrated competency using test equipment such as voltmeter and the ground stick
- Demonstrated ability to read and understand basic electrical wiring diagrams or schematics, working from documentation, diagrams, rough sketches, layouts, and verbal instructions.
- Experience with installation, maintenance, commissioning, and repairs on simple electrical/electronic equipment and/or systems.
- Experience with basic water and air pressure systems.
- Demonstrated competency using test equipment such as oscilloscopes.
- Demonstrated experience in troubleshooting and repairing of AC and DC electronic system and similar equipment.
- Demonstrated experience performing installation, maintenance, commissioning, and repairs on complex electrical/electronic equipment and/or systems.
- Excellence in troubleshooting circuits containing multiple integrated or discrete components.
- Experience with programming and/or using PLCs and/or process controllers.
Education/ Experience at Level 4: Position requires an associate's degree in a related field and a minimum of five (5) years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
