As a Veterinary Technician, your primary responsibility is patient care and medical support. You’ll work directly with doctors during exams, treatments, procedures, and surgery, ensuring every patient receives attentive, skilled, and compassionate care. You’ll also help maintain a clean, safe, and organized hospital environment while supporting the overall function of the practice.
What You’ll Do
- Provide compassionate care and safe restraint for patients
- Assist DVMs with exams, treatments, procedures, and surgery
- Perform diagnostic sample collection including blood, urine (free catch and cystocentesis), fecal, skin scrapings, and radiographs
- Perform in‑house lab testing and prepare reference lab samples
- Take vital signs, perform patient monitoring, and record TPRs
- Prepare and administer medications as directed by DVMs
- Fill prescriptions authorized by DVMs
- Place and maintain IV catheters; set up IV pumps and monitoring equipment
- Induce, monitor, and recover anesthesia; maintain anesthesia and surgical records
- Prepare patients for surgery, assist surgeons, and maintain anesthesia and surgical records
- Perform dental cleanings, scaling, polishing, and assist with dental procedures
- Admit and monitor hospitalized patients and surgical cases
- Maintain surgical suites, equipment, packs, cold trays, and inventory
- Maintain lab and medical equipment per hospital schedule
- Communicate with clients and accurately relay LVC discharge and home‑care instructions
- Assist with client education, discharge instructions, and phone support as needed
- Clean and restock exam rooms; sanitize hospital areas; sterilize instruments; manage laundry
- Maintain stocked exam rooms, treatment areas, and surgery
- Perform other job‑related duties as necessary
What We’re Looking For
- Required: 5 yrs relevant experience
- LVT strongly preferred
- Self‑motivated, detail‑oriented, and ability to multitask
- Strong communication and client service skills
- Ability to work well with a team as well as independently
- Comfortable using computers for medical records and communication
- Strong knowledge of or willingness to continue learning medical terminology, equipment, anesthesia, diagnostics, and safe animal handling
Work Environment
This role involves long periods of standing and walking, exposure to animal waste, odors, noise, medical equipment, and handling animals that may be fearful or aggressive. Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and lift throughout 10‑hour shifts is required. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs independently and more with assistance, and safely restrain animals up to 200 lbs. Adherence to safety protocols, PPE use, and regulatory guidelines, including OSHA and DEA, is required.
