Job Summary/Responsibilities
- Wash, peel, cut, and portion fruits, vegetables, and other ingredients
- Prepare sauces, dressings, marinades, and basic recipe components
- Measure and organize ingredients for cooking stations
- Assist line cooks by keeping stations stocked and organized during service
- Maintain cleanliness and sanitation standards in all food preparation areas
- Follow proper food handling, storage, and safety procedures
- Label, date, and store food items correctly following FIFO guidelines
- Support basic cooking tasks as needed under supervision
- Assist with inventory control and report low-stock items
- Work closely with the kitchen team and follow instructions from chefs and supervisors
- Help with kitchen closing duties and general cleanup
Other Responsibilities

Qualifications:
Position Qualifications
Education/Formal Training
High school education or equivalent.
Experience
- 1 year of prep cook experience in a fast-paced, high-end or hotel restaurant
- Knowledge of all cooking and preparation equipment
- Basic knife skills
- Ability to stand and move at a fast pace for long periods of time
- Ability to work a flexible schedule is required
Education and Experience Requirements
- High school or equivalent education preferred
- Food Handler Certificate
Knowledge/Skills
- Basic knowledge of food safety and sanitation standards (HACCP preferred)
- Understanding of kitchen operations and mise en place procedures
- Ability to follow recipes and portion control guidelines accurately
- Knowledge of proper food storage and FIFO system
- Knife skills and safe food handling techniques
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
- Strong attention to detail and cleanliness
- Teamwork and communication skills in a kitchen setting
- Time management and ability to prioritize tasks
- Basic understanding of cooking methods and kitchen equipment
Physical Requirements

- Lifting, pushing, pulling and carrying: Position regularly involves lifting food cases and metros weighing up to 70 lbs. Items include food, small equipment -75% of the time.
- Periodic climbing required.
- Bending of the knees does become necessary when using the lower oven for cooking, 5-10 times a day.
- Mobility -full range of mobility and the ability to travel 30-50 feet on a regular basis throughout the day.
- Continuous standing -during preparation, during service hours or during expediting, usually all day.
- Must be able to hear equipment timers and communicate with other staff.
- Must be able to see that product is prepared appropriately. Lifting, pushing, pulling and carrying.
- Must be able to understand and follow verbal/written instructions and communicate both verbally and in writing.
Environment
Inside 95% of 8 hours. Going in the freezer temperatures can be -10 degrees. On the front line, temperatures can be over 100 degrees.
