Summary
The Director of Lord’s Lambs Child Care program at Lord of Life Lutheran Church is responsible for day-to-day operation of the child care program. In that role, the Director is responsible to assess, plan, organize, implement and evaluate the program and the staff in conformance with institutional regulations and state child care licensing provisions. The child care program is a Christian outreach program of Lord of Life Lutheran Church, Missouri Synod and a key component of the congregation’s Word and Sacrament ministry. Therefore, the Director must have a mature Christian faith that is evident in lifestyle, behavior and work habits, especially in dealing with others.
Goals
The primary goal of Lord’s Lambs Child Care is to reach out with love to create new and abundant lives in Christ. The Director will work in conjunction with the Lord's Lambs Board of Directors in order to develop meaningful, focused, and appropriate curricula, programs, and activities in accomplishing this goal.
Director’s Essential Functions
1. Reporting
Reports to President, Board of Directors. Maintains open lines of communication with the Board of Directors on a monthly basis about the business aspects of the child care program
2. Maintain Integrity
a. Maintain professional dress and demeanor consistent with the Christian faith at all times, including on-the-job interactions, public appearances, community roles, and internet use, including but not limited to social media.
b. Treat all staff, children, and parent personal information as confidential and store in password protected computer or locked file drawer.
3. Program Development
a. Ensure the development and implementation of a Christ-centered curriculum.
b. Develop and implement program operating policies, procedures and activities.
c. Recruit and schedule children for the child care center and waiting lists.
d. Maintain accurate records on children enrolled in the program, including but not limited to their development, attendance, immunizations and general health.
e. Confer with parents of children regularly to discuss the development of the enrolled children.
f. Direct the organization and follow-up for special activities such as off-site field trips.
4. Lord’s Lambs Child Care Team
a. Maintain positive lines of communication with Lord of Life Pastors to develop and implement the religion-based components of the curricula.
b. Maintain positive lines of communication with Lord of Life staff regarding church facilities, schedules, and support as needed.
5. Supervise and Mentor Employees
a. Hire and supervise all Lord’s Lambs Child Care teachers and staff members; and ensure conformance to Federal, State and local rules and regulations, training, and licensing requirements.
b. Actively engage with teachers and aides to maintain Christ-centered and high curricular standards.
c. Assist staff in preparing and presenting early childhood programs and activities.
d. Orient new staff on best practices for early child care and licensing standards.
e. Maintain complete and accurate records on all staff members in a secure location.
f. Evaluate newly-hired staff members after 90 days by keeping written records of classroom observations in order to support ratings and recommendations given at each evaluation.
g. Evaluate existing staff members at least yearly by keeping written records of classroom observations in order to support ratings and recommendations given at each evaluation.
6. Financial Responsibilities
a. Prepare, implement and evaluate annual budget for approval by the Board ofDirectors.
b. Be knowledgeable of child care software system.
c. Maintain up-to-date and accurate records of financial accounts. Provide Board of Directors monthly financial operating statements.
d. Conduct fundraising activities and marketing campaigns as needed.
e. Purchase inventory and materials as needed.
7. State and Federal Regulation Responsibilities
a. Ensure compliance with any and all Federal, State and local licensing requirements.
b. Prepare reports to Child Protective Services and other agencies as needed.
c. Supervise Lord’s Lambs Child Care cleaning services. Report building maintenance issues to Lord of Life Board of Properties (electrical, plumbing, HVAC, window and door repair).
Time Commitment
- Work week - full time Monday through Friday, with an average of 40-45 hours per week for a 12-month calendar year. Expected to give some volunteer time and stay late some evenings on an as needed basis.
- Vacation – ten (10) days per year (unused days not carried over), which is to be scheduled with the Board of Directors at least two (2) weeks prior to the vacation time requested.
- Holidays – eight (8) days per calendar year (unused days not carried over): New Year’s Day, Good Friday, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas.
- Sick leave and bereavement – five (5) days per calendar year (unused days not carried over).
Working Conditions
Work is performed in a child care setting. Noise level is moderate. There are minimal temperature variations. The environment is generally hazard free. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by the Director to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. They include: occasionally lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling up to 45 pounds, some climbing and balancing, some stooped, kneeling, crouching or crawling and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally, the job requires 45% sitting, 45% standing, and 10% walking. Walking is over short distances, but can be over uneven terrain and climbing stairs.
Minimum Qualifications
The Director must be at least 21 years of age and of good moral character and:
1. Hold a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in early childhood education or child development; or
2. Hold a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college of university with a least 6 credit hours in early childhood education, education or child development.

Director Training Programs
The Director must have completed training in Nebraska Child Care Director and have taken or be enrolled in these courses within three (3) year of hire:
1. Safety Training: offered by the Early Childhood Training Center on Sudden Infant Death
Syndrome, safe sleep, shaken baby syndrome, and child abuse/neglect and reporting.

2. Child Care Management: offered by the Early Childhood Training Center. State of

3. Nebraska’s Early Training Guidelines: offered by Early Childhood Training Center on seven domains: Approaches to Learning, Creative Arts, Health and Physical Development,
Language and Literacy Development, Mathematics, Science, and Social and Emotional
Development. State of Nebraska Qualifications 3-006.08C.
4. Transportation Training: Director must receive and maintain a valid certificate of completion of “Safe Kids Buckle Up” program within 90 days of employment and maintain it on a 5 year renewal program. State of Nebraska Qualifications 3-006.10C.
5. Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and First Aid Training: All staff and those who transport children must be trained and the training renewed annually.
Opportunities for Personal Growth
The Director will be evaluated after 90 days from hire and at least yearly thereafter by the Board of Directors with the input of parents of enrolled children, Lord of Life Pastors, Lord’s Lambs Child Care staff, and Board of Directors members. During the evaluation process, there will be a review of attainment of the year’s goals; and the Director will work with the Board of Directors to establish new goals for the upcoming year. Changes in salary and vacation will be discussed at the yearly evaluation in light of the input received and the accomplishment of the goals.
