Description
Performs a wide range of building and grounds repair, lawn maintenance, custodial, and aquatic operations. Maintains pool filtration systems and keeps records on all repairs and operations.
- Clean and maintain the Amherst HealthPlex facilities and grounds (swimming pool, therapy pool, splash pad, locker rooms, family changing rooms, meeting/party rooms, exercise equipment areas, front office, concession area, playground, etc.). Performs other custodial work, including trash and litter pickup and vacuuming the pools.
- Performs a variety of landscaping maintenance including mowing, mulching, planting flowers, trees, and grass, watering, fertilizing and spraying, and pruning trees and shrubs.
- Repairs and painting on furniture and equipment. Performs preventative maintenance and minor repairs on equipment (i.e., mowers, trimmers, furniture, chemical controllers, and pool vacuums). Operates a variety of vehicles and equipment, which may include trucks, ground maintenance equipment, and power and hand tools.
- Provides preventative maintenance; inspects, maintains, and makes repairs of facility and equipment (pumps, filters, motors, Dectron unit, rooftop units, HVAC, etc.). Performs backwashing, cleans baskets, changes peristaltic/chemical feeder lines, changes acid containers, works with and around chlorine, etc.
- Assists with chemical balancing, water-quality testing, etc., upon request of the Facility Coordinator.
- Schedules assignments, assigns work orders, and reports daily work progress to the Facility Coordinator. Purchases supplies and equipment as authorized, following purchasing guidelines.
- Attends and assists with pre-season orientation and periodic staff meetings and training, holds and maintains CPO/AFO certification. Responds quickly to all emergency situations, operates emergency equipment, including AED and radios.
- Educates patrons on rules, regulations, and safety issues. Uses excellent interpersonal skills to effectively work with supervisors, co-workers, and customers.
- Performs special projects and related duties as apparent and assigned.
Requirements
Education/Experience: Completion of secondary education (high school or GED) and over one year’s park or related field experience, or semi-skilled maintenance and repair experience or two years’ experience in swimming pools. Plumbing, electrical, and HVAC work are an essential part of the duties for this position; experience and/or training required. May be required to obtain a pesticide applicator’s license and obtain a valid Ohio commercial driver’s license of the appropriate class and with the appropriate endorsement(s), and an AFO or CPO license, and be tested and wear a respirator when working with chemicals within six months of hire.
Language Skills: Ability to communicate professionally and courteously with co-workers on a daily basis; ability to communicate in writing, complete forms, reports, etc.
Mathematical Skills: Basic mathematical skills; add, subtract, multiply, and divide whole numbers, fractions, and decimals. Working understanding of formulas, calculations, and mixtures commonly used in swimming pool operations.
Reasoning Ability: Ability to carry out instructions, deal with problems involving several variables within a familiar context, and lead or direct the work activities. Ability to work with a minimum amount of supervision.
Licensing, Registrations: Possession of a valid Ohio driver’s license, insurable by the Park District’s insurance carrier, and ability to conform to the driving standards policy as approved by the Board of Park Commissioners. Must be able to pass a Respirator Fit Test and wear a respirator when working with chemicals. Obtain a pool operator’s certification within six (6) months of hire.
Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk, talk, and hear; operate grounds maintenance and heavy machinery, work with hands, lift, use hand tools, and drive park vehicles. Use of respirators is required. The employee is frequently required to stand; use hands to find, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms, etc. The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb, or balance, and stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl.
Work Environment: While performing the regular duties of this job, the employee regularly works in outside weather conditions. The employee spends a portion of the time working in a swimming pool environment. Works with chemicals. The employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
Additional Information: May be required to read and interpret sketches in connection with repairs or special projects, and diagnose mechanical failure or equipment.
