Job Description

The LCCC Children’s Learning Center (CLC) is hiring a dedicated early childhood educator for our Gold Rated Step Up To Quality program. Located on the campus of Lorain County Community College, the CLC provides flexible care for a diverse population and is not your typical early education program.

Reporting to the Manager of the Children’s Learning Center (CLC), the Administrative Teacher will provide care and educational opportunities for children enrolled in the program at least fifty percent of work week.

Classroom Teacher Job Summary

The CLC Teacher provides care and educational opportunities for children enrolled in the program. Assist with day-to-day planning of a developmentally appropriate curriculum, selection and preparation of materials to support activities, room arrangements that highlight interest centers and facilitate the active involvement of children in their learning. Practices Conscious Discipline techniques and skills in the classroom environment and through interactions with children. Utilizes and models active listening skills and effective teaching strategies for LCCC's adult learners assigned to the classroom for observations and practicum placements. Communicates effectively with the children, families, and LCCC's faculty.

In addition to classroom teacher responsibilities, the Administrative Teacher provides administrative support up to 50% of the work week:

Administrative Responsibilities

Administrative Support:

  • Participate in various projects as directed by the Manager and/or Supervisor
  • Support the CLC Supervisor with implementation of LCCC College for Kids Programming
  • Collaborate with the administrative team to maintain Step Up to Quality rating and licensing requirements

Classroom Support & Curriculum

  • Serve as a substitute for teaching staff to meet the staffing needs of the center as needed
  • Assist with the screening and referral process of all enrolled students and coordination of tasks amongst appropriate CLC staff; including screenings, referrals, and parent conferences
  • Collaborate with various campus departments and community organizations to schedule special programs and events for the students.

Family and Community Engagement

  • Support the CLC Manager, Supervisor, and support staff with the enrollment process, including orientations, for enrolled families
  • Attend outreach events and programs to promote the CLC and Commodore Kids programming
  • Plan, coordinate, and implement programs to ensure effective home-school partnerships in collaboration with other classroom teachers

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education or related field
  • Minimum of 3 years teaching experience in an early childhood setting with toddler and preschool age groups
  • Familiarity with DCY Licensing Rules and Regulations and Step Up to Quality Standards
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to collaborate with various professionals to develop enhanced programming for the CLC (i.e. FabLab, Library, ECE program, etc.)
  • Willingness to complete required in-service and participate in ongoing professional development as required by licensing and/or Step Up to Qualityy
  • Must meet all childcare staff member licensing regulations, including extensive background check as required by DCY
  • Demonstrated knowledge and ability to work with young children and families
