Position Summary
Educate the public about organ, tissue and eye donation and promote the donor registry. Assist with the development and implementation of strategic multiethnic initiatives to increase the donor registry, as well as promote disease prevention for target audiences.
Essential Functions
- Coordinates and implements donation education for assigned service areas and actively promotes the Louisiana Donor Registry (or the national registry when the audience includes other states).
- Seeks partnership opportunities with schools, churches, businesses, healthcare facilities, and civic organizations to reach targeted audiences with donation information.
- Actively seeks opportunities to partner with multiethnic agencies in the community such as service organizations, church ministries, student groups, businesses-minded organizations, hospital community outreach efforts, etc.
- Coordinates and conducts outreach to OMVs, PTAs, Drivers Education and other related offices in assigned service areas to increase registry rates and decrease registry removals.
- Seek traditional and social media opportunities to further promote donation.
- Pitches stories to the media in the assigned service area and assists in monitoring media for potential opportunities for and threats to donation and LOPA.
- Focuses on recruitment of multiethnic donor families and/or recipients to serve as volunteers and communicate their stories via media to breakdown myths & misconceptions in the community
- Maintains an understanding of the community service area regarding multiethnic and minority issues concerning donation and health disparities to build trust and enhance the donor registry
- Participates in volunteer recruitment, orientation and training programs, and communicates opportunities to volunteers in designated service areas.
- Utilize the Customer Relationship Management system (Giveffect) to track and analyze community outreach activities, including volunteer participation, and keep calendar current for assigned service areas.
Job Role Expectations
- Ensures that priorities are established for work performed, according to department goals and maintains regular communication with the Public Relations Manager.
- Develops and maintains positive relationships with associated agencies and programs.
- Participates in developing the social media content calendar and updates in assigned regional groups.
- Supports Hospital Development in the implementation and coordination of donor drives, flag ceremonies and/or donor family support for LOPA to maximize hospital participation in the organ and tissue donor registry program within their service areas.
- Contributes to Quality Improvement activities across the agency with a goal of participation in 2 projects per year.
- Attends regularly scheduled meetings with the department, staff and management team to communicate information and facilitate cooperative departmental activities.
- Participates in at least one Donate Life America, HRSA, or AMAT workshop or webinar and at least one independent professional development activity as authorized by the Public Relations Manager, annually.

Role Progression
- Opportunities to progress in this role may be available through the LOPA Leadership Academy, strategic planning workgroups, or by increasing your role responsibilities in either DLA or DLL.
- This role is eligible for progression to Public Relations Manager if the position is made available. Promotion to Public Relations Manager will be determined by the department director after an evaluation has been completed.
Work Environment
- Work required outdoors in elements such as precipitation and wind may be necessary at times.
- Possible mental and visual fatigue associated with detailed work
- This position requires travel as needed, using own transportation
- Some work is done indoors in an office setting
- Work in a fast-paced environment with a sometimes demanding time schedule
- Work in open space where noisy levels may occasionally be higher than normal.

Work Hours
- Full time position, some nights and weekend work required. Occasional out of state travel for conferences or events. Overtime is expected only on occasion during peak times such as Donate Life Month (April).
Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience with clinical education and/or a background in healthcare preferred.
- Media relations experience preferred.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Ability to identify and reach multiethnic populations
- Ability to effectively present information and answer inquiries in large groups.
- Ability to work independently and solve problems.
- Excellent communication skills
- Ability to create engaging social media content, monitor groups, review data and adjust posting to increase engagement
- Working knowledge of Google Suite products; understanding of CRM software preferred.
- Ability to read, write, and comprehend instructions, short correspondence, memos, and press release
