Parent Educator
Parents as Teachers (PAT) is an internationally recognized family visiting program for families with children between prenatal and Kindergarten entry. Parent educators meet families where they are comfortable, typically in their home but sometimes in the community. During visits, parent educators bring activities to do with the caregivers and child, discuss the child’s or children’s development, assess family needs through discussions and child and caregiver screenings, offer resource referrals and partner to set goals. Weekly group connections/playgroups are also offered to families in the community. Parent educators receive comprehensive training to become certified.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct personal visits using the Parents as Teachers curriculum in family’s homes, the community or virtually
- Assist in planning and delivery of group connections/playgroups
- Maintain and submit required family and program documentation
- Meet with supervisor for reflective supervision sessions and regular staff meetings
- Assist in recruiting efforts to enroll families in program
- Complete additional training for professional development
- Create and organize supplies/materials, etc.
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications Needed:
- Parents as Teachers national certification preferred.
- Must have a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Human Services, Child Development, Education OR related field, with experience working with young children and/ or parents.
- Experience in working with families with multiple needs.
- Strong verbal, written and computer skills required.
- BCI and CANTS clearance required.
- Valid driver’s license and access to an insured vehicle.
- Flexibility to conduct home visits when families are available.
- Strong knowledge and commitment to serving families of diverse social and economic backgrounds.
- Adhere to confidentiality of families.
- Be highly organized and accountable.
- Be an independent, self-motivated worker.
- Be able to establish rapport with families and empower them by building on their strengths.
- Bilingual Spanish and English preferred
Hours of Work & Location:
• Hours of Work: This position is full-time, 35 hours a week. Work will generally be completed Monday-Friday, between 9:00 am-5:30 pm, with some evenings and weekends required
- Location: Work is primarily performed out in the community, and remotely from home and occasionally at Looking Upwards offices.
Salary and Benefits:
