OVERVIEW OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Cook is responsible for meal planning and cooking meals for the residents. Maintains sanitation and follows necessary guidelines for food handling and safety.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Education: High School diploma or equivalent.
- Certification: Food Handler's License
- Experience: Institutional or volume cooking experience.
- Availability: Sunday - Wednesday plus some scheduled coverage for PTO hours
- Driver's License: Valid in Oregon, acceptable record, and insurability under Agency's auto insurance.
- Knowledge of USDA standards.
- Knowledge of proper use and care of kitchen equipment and utensils.
- Knowledge of proper storage and use of food.
- Ability to work effectively as a member of an integrated team.
- Ability to relate effectively with youth, parents, community, and referral sources.
- Ability to work in a structured, often stressful, environment and maintain a positive mental attitude.
- Ability to maintain a sanitary kitchen facility.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Good communication skills.
- Basic computer skills: MS Office, email, spread sheets.
- Cultural sensitivity and experience working with people from diverse cultural backgrounds.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Develops menus and prepares nutritious, appealing meals for youth and staff (25 45 people).
- Develops and maintains a recipe file.
- Purchases food, household supplies, and hygienic items for the program within a budget.
- Order and pick up donated food from community food bank and other sources.
- Reports kitchen maintenance needs to supervisor, and follows up as appropriate.
- Maintains records required by the Oregon Department of Education Breakfast Program, Lunch Program, and Milk Program, including meeting nutritional requirements, meal counts, milk counts, monthly inventory and cost/clients meals assessment.
- Assists with supervising youth working in the kitchen.
- Prepares food for off-duty days.
- Prepares large amounts of food as necessary by freezing or drying.
- Completes other duties as assigned.
