Under the general supervision of the Executive Director, the STEP Director oversees all aspects of the Skilled Trades Employment Program. This includes student recruitment, program coordination, NCCER testing administration, employer and partner relationships, and day-to-day class operations. The STEP Director ensures students are supported, prepared, and positioned for success in skilled trades careers.

Core Responsibilities

Program Administration (NCCER)

  • Must be NCCER certified and trained to use the NCCER testing system (In house certification can be provided)
  • Set up and manage student accounts
  • Assign module tests to students
  • Proctor NCCER testing
  • Monitor student progress and generate training reports
  • Maintain and update NCCER database for each class

Class Coordination & Scheduling

  • Coordinate class schedules:
  • Core Construction (7 weeks)
  • Electrical (7 weeks)
  • Maintenance Awareness (7 weeks)
  • Create and maintain program schedule templates
  • Communicate regularly with instructors
  • Coordinate forklift training with Hope Timber
  • Coordinate field trips with employer partners (e.g., Owens Corning, Holophane)
  • Maintain and update all schedules

Student Recruitment & Enrollment

Present program information to:

  • Justice system partners
  • High schools
  • Civic organization
  • Religious organizations
  • Interview and admit students
  • Maintain accurate student records
  • Respond to inquiries from website and community (phone, text, email)

Student Orientation

  • Prepare all student documents
  • Develop and manage orientation schedule
  • Coordinate food and logistics for orientation
  • Communicate with students, instructors, graduates, and faith partners

Faith Partner Coordination

  • Recruit and maintain relationships with faith partners
  • Schedule faith partner participation
  • Provide reminders prior to their scheduled involvement
  • Coordinate and prepare lunches for Faith Partner Mondays

Weekly Program Responsibilities

Monday

  • Coordinate lunch for students and faith partners
  • Arrange donations for food and drinks and volunteers to cook when needed
  • Ensure donated drinks, snacks, and supplies are available
  • Welcome support partners (e.g., Fuse Network)
  • Prepare Communication and Employability skills activities for the 11:30 am slot for the class.
  • Ensure NCCER retesting is properly scheduled and administered
  • Facilitate employability and communication skills training
  • Monitor class activities and engagement

Tuesday

  • Prepare classroom and materials
  • Ensure students have access to snacks and drinks
  • Monitor classroom participation and progress

Student Support & Outcomes

  • Assist students with resume creation
  • Track and monitor attendance
  • Complete student evaluations with instructor input
  • Support students in completing certifications and transitioning into employment
  • Maintain strong communication with students, staff, and community partners
  • Foster a supportive, encouraging learning environment
  • Represent the mission and values of the Look Up Center
  • Provide hands-on leadership and daily program oversight
  • Provide individualized support to students navigating personal or life challenges that may affect their success in the program
  • Offer encouragement, accountability, and spiritual guidance
  • Support students by connecting them to community resources when needed

Program Development, Partnerships & Operations

  • Build and maintain relationships with local employers to support student placement, program collaboration, and ongoing engagement
  • Communicate regularly with employer partners and seek support through involvement, donations, and opportunities for students
  • Seek and pursue grant opportunities and donations to support and grow the STEP program
  • Coordinate with C-TEC training programs and other educational partners to strengthen program pathways
  • Coordinate student scholarships and funding opportunities, including partnerships with Job and Family Services (JFS) and program sponsors
  • Track and manage student tuition payments, including payment plans and third-party funding
  • Collaborate with the Marketing Director to coordinate advertising, outreach, and student recognition posts
  • Maintain accurate program records, including student enrollment, progress, completion, and follow up with students who have graduated or withdrawn
  • Open and prepare classroom spaces for daily use and ensure the building is secured and locked at the end of programming
  • Monitor, organize, and maintain program supplies and equipment, including tools, safety gear (hard hats, glasses), classroom materials, and trade-related items

Additional Requirements

· All applications must be willing to submit to a background check.

· As a Christ-centered organization, employees are expected to support and uphold the Look Up Center’s mission, values, and statement of faith.

· Must have a valid driver’s license.

· Must be able to work flexible hours as needed.

· Evening hours are required.

Pay: $19.00 - $23.00 per hour
