What are the responsibilities and job description for the SEASONAL PLANT HEALTH CARE TECHNICIAN position at Longwood Gardens?

Longwood Gardens is seeking a seasonal Plant Heath Care (PHC) Technician assistant to join our Horticulture team. This individual will be responsible for:
- Scouting Longwood Garden’s growing and display areas for insects and other pests, including diseases and plant viruses
- Managing nuisance pest issues including ants, wasps, cockroaches
- Releasing beneficial insects
- Performing mechanical control, as needed
- Supporting laboratory activities, such as virus testing, insect counts, and microscope work
- Supporting regulatory work with Safety Data Sheets and Chemical Labels
The ideal candidate will possess:
- Experience in integrated pest management (preferred)
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and other internet-based software programs
- The ability to lift at least 50 pounds
- A valid driver’s license
- The ability to operate small utility trucks
- The ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and temperatures
The work schedule will be Monday to Friday from 6:00am – 2:30pm with an average of 40 hours per week.
