What are the responsibilities and job description for the Maintenance Technician position at Long Term Care Facility Located in Queens?
Elmhurst Care Center is seeking a dependable and motivated Maintenance Technician to join our in-house maintenance team. This position is responsible for maintaining a safe, clean, and functional environment for our residents, staff, and visitors.
The ideal candidate has experience with general building maintenance, preventive maintenance, and repairs in a commercial building, healthcare facility, apartment building, hotel, or similar setting. HVAC and PTAC experience is a plus but is not required.
Responsibilities
- Perform daily maintenance work orders in a timely and professional manner.
- Troubleshoot and repair plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and general building maintenance issues.
- Perform preventive maintenance on PTAC units, including cleaning filters, coils, and condensate drains.
- Assist with troubleshooting HVAC equipment and coordinate major repairs with outside vendors when necessary.
- Perform minor repairs to commercial kitchen equipment and report major equipment issues.
- Repair doors, locks, ceilings, walls, flooring, furniture, resident beds, wheelchairs, and other facility equipment.
- Replace lighting fixtures, outlets, switches, faucets, toilets, and other building components.
- Complete preventive maintenance tasks and maintain accurate maintenance records.
- Respond to emergency maintenance requests as needed.
- Maintain a clean and organized maintenance shop and work areas.
- Follow OSHA safety standards and facility policies.
- Work cooperatively with nursing, housekeeping, dietary, and administration to ensure a safe environment for residents.
QualificationsRequired
- High school diploma or GED.
- Minimum of 2 years of building maintenance experience.
- Working knowledge of plumbing, electrical, carpentry, drywall, painting, and general repairs.
- Ability to troubleshoot maintenance issues independently.
- Ability to safely operate hand and power tools.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Reliable attendance and a positive team attitude.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work on ladders when necessary.
Preferred
- Experience in a nursing home, hospital, hotel, apartment building, or commercial facility.
- Basic HVAC or PTAC maintenance experience.
- EPA Section 608 Certification (preferred but not required).
- Experience with commercial kitchen equipment is a plus.
- Preventive maintenance experience.
