Role Summary
The Senior Accountant – Auto will be responsible for performing monthly accounting integrity tasks and processes. These tasks will be critical in establishing and maintaining GAAP accounting practices across a large automotive group with multiple locations. The staff accountant will assist in developing and implementing an internal financial reporting and KPI framework for internal stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
● Reconcile key balance sheet accounts monthly to the organization’s DMS, bank reconciliations, inventory systems, AP system, etc.
● Review monthly general ledger activity, account balances, aged reports, etc., for reasonableness
● Perform monthly reporting procedures to bridge dealer financial statements to GAAP financial statements for key internal stakeholders
● Prepare schedules/support for board presentation materials
● Perform variance analysis procedures over key financial accounts to explain changes in operating results vs planned or prior period
● Assist in the annual budgeting process
● Document reconciliation procedures as schedules move from cleanup to steady state
● Identify and flag recurring discrepancies or control gaps to management
● Participate in accrual methodology remediation as directed
● Assist in documenting accounting policies and procedures, as well as accounting treatments
Qualifications
● Bachelor’s degree in accounting
● At least 2 years of experience with general ledger accounting, journal entry preparation, financial statement preparation, balance sheet account reconciliations, etc.
● Automotive dealership accounting experience a plus, not required
● Advanced Excel skills required
● Experience using AI tools (Claude or similar) a plus
● Strong reconciliation/analytical mindset — comfortable digging into detail and tracing discrepancies to root cause
● Ability to work cross-functionally with dealership operations staff without direct authority over them
