*Current vacancies require a variable work schedule including evenings and weekends. Positions requiring variable schedules shall be eligible for one salary range above the position's regular rate of compensation, see adjusted rate.

This recruitment will be used to fill current and future vacancies across multiple departments within the District.

Join the Long Beach Community College District as a Matriculation Assistant, supporting student access and success through the enrollment, onboarding, and matriculation process. In this role, you will perform a variety of clerical support duties related to matriculation and student services, assisting students as they complete key steps toward beginning their college experience.


You will provide general information to students and the public regarding matriculation activities such as placement, orientation, counseling, and registration; assist with completing forms and applications; support onboarding and matriculation-related events; and help maintain records and data. The position also involves assisting with orientations, placements, registration, and other program sign-ups; referring students to appropriate services; and supporting the setup and organization of matriculation workshops and activities. 

Additionally, this candidate must have graduated from high school or G.E.D. equivalent and two (2) years of clerical/office experience, and serving college students, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. The ability to speak, read and write Vietnamese, Cambodian, and/or Spanish is highly desired. If this describes you, we encourage you to apply for the opportunity to join the innovative and talented LBCC team!

AT-A-GLANCE POSITION INFORMATION 

  • Type of position: Part time (18 hours/week) / Bargaining Unit
  • Schedule: Monday - Friday, between 8:00 am - 5:00 pm (may flex when needed to cover evening/weekend events)
  • Location: Liberal Arts Campus (LAC) and Trades, Technology, and Community Learning Campus (TTC), supporting both campuses.
  • Salary: Range 23, $1,981.49 - $2,433.41 (This vacancy is subject to a variable pay range. Positions requiring variable work hours and/or workweek schedules, shall be eligible for one additional salary range above the position's regular rate of compensation. ARTICLE 1 - RECOGNITION 9.8 - VARIABLE PAY RANGE 24, $2,032.03 - $2,497.59 Monthly.)
  • *Eligibility list: Will be valid for 6 months once approved or ratified by the Personnel Commission. We reserve the right to use the established eligibility list for vacancies (permanent and temporary) in this classification as well as related classifications

GENERAL PURPOSE
Under the direction of an assigned manager, perform a variety of clerical support duties and assist in providing student services related to matriculation and onboarding; perform related duties as assigned.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
Matriculation Assistant is responsible for performing a variety of clerical duties related to matriculation, onboarding, and student services. Working as a Matriculation Assistant requires knowledge of steps for enrollment, matriculation, and general familiarity with student support services. Matriculation Assistants also support a variety of events tied to matriculation and should have basic knowledge of the functions applicable to an area of assignment and the ability to solve routine problems.

Education, Training and Experience:

Licenses; Certificates; Special Requirements: 

May require a valid California driver's license and the ability to maintain insurability under the District’s vehicle insurance policy.

Selection Process:

The following examination segments are pass/fail and may be utilized during the selection process:

  • screening of the applicant's training, background, and experience
  • scored evaluation of responses on a supplemental application/ subject matter expert (SME) review. *** Please answer each question thoroughly as they will be read and scored by SMEs*** 
  • in-person or online:
    1. written examination(s)
    2. qualifications appraisal oral examination 
    3. performance examination
    4. technical oral examination
      (the above will be scored on a job-related basis)

Qualification appraisal interview (may be via Zoom or in-person): August 17 and August 18, 2026
Final interview (in-person only): Week of August 31, 2026
