ABOUT THE POSITION
The Long Beach Community College District is looking to hire two (2) full-time tenure track Mathematics Instructors commencing with the 2026 Fall semester. The primary teaching assignment involves teaching geometry, college algebra, statistics, trigonometry, pre-calculus, and through the calculus sequence to linear algebra and differential equations in addition to embedded co-requisite courses within those courses already listed and other support pathways.  This assignment also includes curriculum development, participation in the shared governance process through work in normal professional activities, committee work, and student activities. The teaching assignment may be at the Liberal Arts campus, the Trades, Technology & Community Learning campus or other college teaching locations. The assignment may be day, evening, weekend, on-line or off campus and is subject to change as needed. Faculty positions offer the opportunity to assist a diverse group of adult students in achieving their educational goals.   • Demonstrated experience and commitment to integrating new technologies into the learning process, including but not limited to interactive technologies for on-campus and online courses.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Master’s in mathematics or applied mathematics
          OR 
  • Bachelor’s in either of the above 
          AND 
          Master’s in statistics, physics or mathematics education
          OR 
  • the equivalent

All candidates must demonstrate:

Evidence of a sensitivity, understanding, and ability to manage the classroom environment AND effectively provide instruction to community college students of diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
 
  • Experience teaching statistics or related statistics coursework.
  • Strong ability to teach both basic skills and underprepared students.
  • Experience in, or a desire to design an effective learning environment through a variety of innovative instructional strategies or technologies to maximize student success.
  • Possesses teaching experience at the community college level and exhibits a commitment to the mission of the community college.
  • Understanding, training, and experience working with diverse populations.
  • Experience in, or a desire to participate in workgroups or decision making activities, both at the department and college-wide level that may involve assuming a leadership role.
  • Possesses a working knowledge of Student Learning Outcomes, assessment, analysis, action, and closure.
  • Evidence of participation in student success initiatives in a post-secondary setting such as co-requisite and other forms of support course.
  • Experience with, or a desire to, learn current remote teaching strategies and software.
  • Experience with the curriculum process to include creating new courses, revising existing courses, and working with their associated articulation agreements.

  • ALL graduate and undergraduate transcripts, showing school name, all college coursework, degree title and conferral date. This includes transcripts for any and all for the following degrees, BA/BS, MA/MS and above (Ed.D, Ph,D, etc.) and courses used for transfer credit. Transcripts can be official or unofficial and must be submitted as an attachment. The conferral date must be on or before the application deadline in order to meet Minimum Qualifications.
  • Transcripts from countries other than the United States must be evaluated by an agency that is a member of the National Association of Credentials Evaluation Service (NACES)or Association of International Credential Evaluators, Inc (AICE).
